In Conversation with Jungian Psychoanalyst Polly Young-Eisendrath, Ph.D

Psychologist, writer, podcaster, speaker, and Jungian analyst Polly Young-Eisendrath, Ph.D. joins Terry Moore in conversation about “waking up” as it relates to the mind, body, heart and soul. Two longtime friends dive into the topic of the cosmic, undivided love and how our actions manifest our version of enlightenment, that it is not manifested solely in the mind. They discuss contemporary, Chinese, and Japanese, and Western literature along with psychotherapy and Buddhism as sources of inspiration for a clear sense of awakening with suggested practices to carry into your relationships and everyday life. For those who are new to the idea of enlightenment, such as Gen Z and Gen Alpha, Terry and explore starting points such as practice-oriented apps to train your awareness and embodied methods to commit yourself to a holistic “path.” Polly shares how her non-profit Center for Real Dialogue in Vermont enhances healthy, rather than destructive, conflict to bring undivided love into interactions.

25:02 Polly offers thoughts on The Unified Path “The Unified Path, in…recognizing that waking up, or enlightenment, is always a contained or constrained experience. Even the Buddha had to go back to being a regular person, having difficulties with his wife, with his cousin. He had this supreme enlightenment that apparently lasted 6 hours, but then he went back to being a pretty regular guy. He had to go back and forth and he was very aware of the back and forth-ing. I think of all us who practiced spiritual practices, have had awakenings, we recognize we have to take it back in our embodied life. We need to take it in a direction that leads all beings, not just ourselves, into experiences.”

26:49 Polly and Terry discuss the importance of employing these practices and not just reading about them. “I’ve noticed there are many folks that read about these things, but they don’t do them.” - Polly

“They think they’re wonderful but they don’t do them, they don’t put them into practice and use the heart, soul, and body part of their being, which can contribute to their knowledge, understanding, and growth.” - Terry

“Yes, absolutely. That’s what The Unified Path is all about.” - Polly
