German psychiatrist Johannes Heinrich Schultz first introduced the technique in his book Das Autogene Training in 1932. Today, autogenic training is used around the world to support mental health and help ease stress, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and more. Astronauts at NASA, for instance, use autogenic training to help them with the psychophysiological stressors of space travel.
