On this episode Brian Berneman talks with Olivia Johnson-Lee about reconnecting with our cycles and the power we have in aligning to natural cycles.

Olivia's journey:

She describes her journey of seeking answers for her mental health challenges as a teenager, which led her to explore yoga, women's circles, and eventually birth doula training. This inspired her to dive deeper into the menstrual cycle and bring awareness to the womb space.

Understanding the menstrual cycle:

Olivia explains the four phases of the menstrual cycle - menstruation, follicular, ovulation, and luteal - and how they can be compared to the seasons. She emphasizes the importance of tuning into our own direct experience of the cycle rather than just learning about it externally. Olivia shares examples of how tracking her own cycle revealed patterns and insights about her mental and physical experiences.

Honoring the cycle and creating safety:

Brian & Olivia discuss the importance of honoring our individual experiences and needs throughout the cycle, and creating safety and self-compassion as we share this with others. She suggests starting small with the "1% rule" and being discerning about who we open up to. They also speak to the role of men in supporting and honoring the feminine cycle.

The connection between cycles and birth:

Olivia shares her perspective on the connection between conscious menstruation work and the birth process. She believes that developing a trusting relationship with our cycle can help us approach birth with more ease and surrender, as the cycle is an innate intelligence that we can learn to work with.
