Y/N Question ASKED & if no response, that's a "no."
Manage episode 489549336 series 3384362
The question was, "do you want to verbally explain since I had to share, emerging reader & I did not get your texts, to explain your thinking since I don't get it? Yes or no?" The best one can do & this is under ADA (American with Disability Act) which isn't a law, more like a guideline because you have to write a letter asking for a reasonable accommodation & if you are denied, that company, office, group, individual should give an explanation why not. For non-readers or those who can read, are fluent, but aren't doing the higher-level skills like recall, summarizing, answering literal & inferential questions, connecting themes, be clear, "I am not a proficient reader & what's easier is a conversation, but I will have to have an advocate who can explain when I'm confused or I can record it to make sure I get all the info necessary to make the decision on what you're asking me to do."
This is the first step in consent. You have to ask permission since my objective is no gotcha moments, just realizing not everyone absorbs the same info. We're mostly well-intentioned, but sometimes the execution comes across poorly.
