In this episode, I sit down with Rachel and Dan Atherton (who arrives fashionably late), and Dan Brown, Atherton Bikes CEO. Gee Atherton was unfortunately unable to join us today, but for anyone not familiar with the world of mountain biking, The Athertons are perhaps the most successful family mountain biking dynasty of all time. Rachel, the most awarded British mountain biker in the history of the sport, the first female ever to win 6 downhill World Cup championships and the proud owner of 39 World Cups, and now wife and mum. Dan, a former national champion, the brains behind the designs of Atherton bikes and the 650-acre bike park. ... and Gee, the World Cup Series Overall Champion and top of the sport for over two decades, winner of 9 World Cups and more than 50 World Cup podium appearances. Atherton Bikes, the family business, builds custom-built 3D-printed bikes and is now the source of the world's fastest downhill mountain bike. The Athertons also run a bike park, 650 acres large set in the DYFI forest, hand-crafted by Dan Atherton. We chat all things mountain biking, world championships, how each of them got into riding and ultimately competing at such a high level, injuries, creating and launching their business Atherton Bikes (during the pandemic) and having a family team racing their own bikes, business successes and setbacks, and more.
