37: DESIRE IS THE ROOT OF ALL SUFFERING
Manage episode 497337281 series 3607594
Depression healing begins by understanding how desire is the root of all suffering. This exploration starts with discerning the science of needs and wants. In this episode of the Overcome Depression Podcast, Jennifer Stirling-Campbell and Michael Campbell explore the complex relationship between desire and suffering, drawing from the six delusions of Buddhist teachings. She discusses how desire can lead to suffering, especially when we seek security based on things we think we need. Contrastingly, freedom comes when we feel gratitude for what we have, and then align our wants with God's will for us (which is actually our will! Listen to find out why!) Similar pathways to peace and fulfillment can come from following the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism, using the transformative power of surrendering personal desires for a higher purpose.
