Luke chapter 1 begins with a detailed introduction explaining the purpose of the Gospel and introduces Zechariah and Elizabeth, a righteous couple unable to have children. An angel appears to Zechariah, announcing that their son, John, will prepare the way for the Lord, but Zechariah doubts and is temporarily made mute. Meanwhile, the angel Gabriel also visits Mary, telling her she will miraculously give birth to Jesus, the promised Savior. Mary visits Elizabeth, and both women rejoice as their unborn children respond with joy. The chapter ends with the birth of John the Baptist and Zechariah’s restored voice as he proclaims a powerful prophecy about God's salvation.
