Ye-Htet Soe, Co-Director of the Bay Area Hub for Soccer Without Borders, joins Glenn on the Field for this edition of The Athletic Spotlight. Ye-Htet shares his powerful journey from growing up in a refugee camp in Thailand to finding community and opportunity through the game of Soccer after resettling in Oakland, CA. He discusses how his volunteer experience with Soccer Without Borders (SWB) as a high school student helped shape his path from Camp Counselor to Program Manager and organizational leader. Ye-Htet also shares how Soccer became more than just a game, but a bridge to belonging, leadership, and mentorship. He talks about his collegiate Soccer experience at Southern New Hampshire University, the lessons learned on- and off-the-field, and how those experiences now guide the way he supports youth through the SWB Bay Area program. Ye-Htet also discusses the importance of inclusivity, representation, and using sport as a tool for empowerment and community building.
