🔄 Break the Loop 5/7: Push Through the Finish #FinishStrongFriday
“Winners never quit, and quitters never win.” — Vince Lombardi.
That line hits different on Fridays, doesn’t it? By the end of the week, it’s easy to forget the fire we had on Monday. Our brains are literally working against us. Science shows that the striatum, which runs on dopamine, starts running low by Friday.
That makes motivation harder to find.
Add something called goal proximity fatigue—the strange tendency to ease up when we see the finish line—and suddenly the last stretch feels like a wall.
But that’s not the whole story.
Here’s what ancient wisdom adds to the conversation: “The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride” (Ecclesiastes 7:8). It’s not just about starting strong. It’s about proving to yourself that you can finish strong, even when it’s tough.
So how do we break the loop?
Microbursts. Set a timer for just five minutes and go all in. That quick push flips the chemistry switch in your brain, giving you a fresh hit of dopamine and momentum. Surgeons use it to lock in at the end of long procedures. Athletes do it all the time in crunch moments.
Here’s today’s challenge.
Pick one place you’ve been fading. Maybe it’s that last work email you’ve been ignoring. Maybe it’s the workout you almost cut short.
Imagine you’re the quarterback driving in the two-minute drill, or the point guard pressing through fatigue in the final quarter. Give yourself a five-minute burst. Watch how fast your brain and body remember you’ve still got gas in the tank.
🎧 Hit play and let’s talk about finishing strong, even when your energy feels spent.
