Hello friends in Jesus welcome to the show 2 Minutes with the Lord.
The statement of Jesus - A disciple is not above the teacher makes a striking claim in our minds. It is worth understanding this statement. Can a disciple be greater than the teacher?
What is your understanding? If we understand the history of Jesus time. A teacher would train the disciple in certain things. The source of teaching was the teacher. So the disciple would have to follow the teachings taught by the teacher.
The disciple would be recognized by the teacher who taught him and this recognition would also brings laurels to the disciple. It was an honor to be trained under certain reputed teachers.
Now Jesus wanted his disciples to imitate him. He was teaching them the commandment of love. The life of Jesus was perfect and holy. The disciples had to learn a lot from Jesus.
Jesus is our teacher too... Can we become like Him?
Our teacher calls us to acknowledge him before others. He makes us aware of the upcoming persecutions. He assures us to be courageous.
Today we also celebrate the feast of St. Benedict, a great teacher honored as the father of western monasticism. He followed Jesus throughout his life. He gave to the world a path of monastic life in the footsteps of Jesus. Let us pray through his intercession.
Lord Jesus, my teacher train me that I may follow your footsteps, Amen.
