The Tenacious Legacy
Manage episode 483006690 series 3659960
From sea to summit, a movement rises — redefining limits, one mile at a time.
In a world that often sees disability as limitation, Wheels for Tenacious stands as a beacon of defiant inclusion. Born from the legendary SV Tenacious—an accessible tall ship where disabled and non-disabled sailors worked as equals—this cycling initiative brings that same ethos to land.
Founded by David Bainbridge, a man who has lived with intense chronic pain and complex conditions like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Wheels for Tenacious isn't just about riding bikes. It’s about rewriting the narrative on endurance, capability, and collaboration.
David’s journey began on the decks of Tenacious in his wheelchair and reached new heights during the grueling “Pulling Together Up Snowdon” climb, where he and fellow adventurers proved that teamwork could overcome even the steepest challenges. That spirit of defiance powered Race the Ship, a 197-mile inclusive race mirroring a sea voyage, and lives on in every event Wheels for Tenacious leads.
Whether it’s 92-mile treks like Barry to Gloucester or the upcoming Dunwich Dynamo ride, Wheels for Tenacious unites adaptive riders, allies, and advocates to challenge societal norms and empower each other through shared endurance.
This is more than a movement. It’s a revolution—on wheels.
