Leading in Chaos
5. Embrace Challenge.
Challenge Zone - I attempt to do what I’ve not done before.
Comfort Zone - I do what I’ve always done.
Everything worthwhile is uphill. - John Maxwell
Coaching Question: What challenges am I avoiding during this season?
6. Embrace Creativity.
“Change before you have to.” - Jack Welch
A crisis is a wake-up call for creativity even when you’re working through fear.
Good fear makes me prepare. Bad fear makes me stare.
Crisis and chaos require extraordinary flexibility. The mission and vision of the organization should stay the same, but sometimes the plans and strategies must change.
For leaders facing chaos, it’s natural to retreat to what is familiar, but a strong leader must know when to set pride aside and make choices that may not feel natural but are the best for the organization.
The No. 1 Mistake Leaders Make in Crisis
During a crisis, leaders tend to hyperfocus on managing the threat and neglect long-range thinking. That’s a mistake because vision is critical both for evaluating short-term decisions and for creating a better future. - Michael Hyatt
Coaching Question: What changes would you make if you tossed out the old church calendar and started from a blank slate?
7. Embrace Trust.
“God is too good to be unkind, And He is too wise to be confused. If I cannot trace His hand, I can always trust His heart.” – Charles Spurgeon
Coaching Question: How do I lead people in faith in a culture driven by fear?
Leaders navigate crisis - that’s what leaders do.
