Revolutionaries, this one hit different. I sat down with my brother Ty Smith, and what unfolded was not just a conversation—but a masterclass in curiosity, presence, and rethinking what we’ve been taught to value. Ty, an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Bowie State and a brilliant connector in the innovation space, is someone who’s spent his life asking better questions—and encouraging us to do the same. We talked about the unexpected blessings that come with transition—Ty recently parted ways with his role at the Common Mission Project—and how he’s using this time to take care of his aging parents and redefine his purpose now that he’s an empty-Nester. At 57, he’s leaning into this next season with clarity, intention, and a deep desire to spend time on what matters most. Sound familiar? We dove into the difference between brainstorming and question storming—a practice that opens up our thinking and forces us to interrogate the assumptions behind our goals. Ty said it best: “Certainty is overrated. Revolutionaries attack certainty.” That line sat in my chest. When we cling too hard to what’s comfortable, we kill our ability to learn, to evolve, to grow. We also explored the intersection of AI, Black tech, and education—and how we must stop chasing just generational wealth and start focusing on generational impact. Wealth is a pillar, no doubt. But what about our health? Our emotional wellness? Our communities? Our stories? Our policy? If we’re going to build a better future for our kids and grand kids, it’s gotta be holistic. And revolutionary. This episode is for any Black man who’s felt the shift coming. Who’s ready to stop living someone else’s story. Who’s done chasing certainty and instead wants to sit still, ask the right questions, and design a life—and a legacy—that actually pays. As always, I love you. I love you. I love you.
