Facebook lookalike audiences are audiences that are based on your custom audiences. Facebook will ask you if you want to create a lookalike audience after you create a custom audience, and what this audience will do is find other people like your base custom audience that you already created. Essentially, you are telling Facebook "hey, I want to find people that are similar to this custom audience," and they do that.
