Murderbot

This weeks comfort watch sci-fi sit-com; Murderbot follows a self-hacking security android (a “SecUnit”) named Murderbot who has gained free will but prefers to keep it secret while watching media. The series, based on the boooks “The Murderbot Diaries” by Martha Wells explores Murderbot’s reluctant journey as it navigates dangerous situations and forms unexpected bonds while trying to maintain its desire for solitude and media consumption.

The whole team is in for this one, Dion, Jill, Quinny and Peta, and in our own way we are all Murderbots… on the right day.

Synopsis

A media-obsessed private security cyborg, calling itself Murderbot, must hide its newly acquired autonomy, while completing dangerous assignments and being simultaneously drawn to humans and appalled at their weakness.

Trailer:

I am a security unit or SEC unit. I was built to protect and obey. Humans and humans are idiots. But now that I’ve hacked my programming, I can do whatever I want as long as they don’t find out.

Speaker 1

Well.

Speaker

Now let’s talk security. We need you to select the SEC unit to take on the mission this. Is the newest model available? There’s the one behind it. That’s a refurbished.

Speaker 3

Model. Ohh. Look at that piece. Of crap. Oh, wait, that’s me.

Speaker

Which one is the?

Speaker 4

Least expensive that one, but you get what you. Pay for.

Speaker 3

True.

Speaker

Wouldn’t be so creepy, but didn’t stand so still. Can you hear? Us Ant.

Speaker 3

I could. I just didn’t care. I was watching the entertainment channels on the company’s satellites. I had watched 7532 hours of content shows like the rise and fall of Sanctuary Moon. Sleep with that. Stars captain. Ohh, what now?

Speaker

Sorry.

Speaker 3

Run. Stay calm. It’ll be OK.

Speaker

I didn’t know that the. Face. Yeah, it’s kind. Of a sweet face.

Speaker 3

Stop staring at.

Speaker

Me. I wasn’t. Stop staring at me. With you.

Speaker 4

I have been noticing some anomalies with the secunia T and when I plugged into its system the unit was already rogue.

Speaker 3

Ohh.

Speaker 4

Itself murder. White House proverb. It’s a killing machine.

Speaker

Murder bomb. You stop calling murder bots terrifying.

Speaker 4

I mean, that’s what it calls itself. So I am just being respectful.

Speaker

Do you think we can trust it? It seems like it’s going through something.

Speaker 4

I contact.

Speaker 1

You could have killed me.

Speaker 3

There was a chance, yes, but everything turned out fine.

Jill

Sucking middle with you.

Speaker

Here I am.

Dion

Hello. Hello and welcome to the periodic table of awesome. My name is Dion or SEC unit. 4332. 414999 and tonight I’m joined by real live left wing colonists Jill and Peter and corporate espionage. Maddie quinny.

Quinny

1111011.

Dion

One. Ohh. You know my father.

Quinny

Is there a wonder I’ve never met her God?

Dion

OK, that’s some terrible, terrible jokes. Uh, hello. How are you? How are you guys all going? Good. Look at you all. You’re all beautiful and gorgeous people.

Quinny

Hmm.

Jill

We’re all happy to be here, I think.

Dion

Yeah. And I’ve had a lot of a lot of medication in the last couple of days, so I feel ******* great.

Quinny

Yeah. He feels pretty. Feels so pretty. Pretty, pretty.

Dion

And numb, witty and. Yes, with Ian, how are you guys? Don’t all speak of 1.

Jill

Happy to be here. Yeah, happy to be here.

Dion

Dead Air is the best air on podcast, isn’t it?

Quinny

Kicking goals. Just kicking all the goals. Pete, how are you?

Dion

Sorry, how are you? Were you all distracted watching content?

Jill

Yeah, I’m just watching Sanctuary Moon behind my dead eyes.

Dion

That’s to be honest, that’s that’s probably what we’re all doing when people are talking. On the phone, it’s like. Isn’t that we supposed to do in zoom meetings to to zone out a little bit like? Wait.

Jill

I just look at myself.

Dion

I’m pretty I’m better than all these other people.

Quinny

The sexy John show wandering around my head. Yeah.

Dion

Again, second long pause, awkward. Nothing. This is just gross.

Quinny

That’s fine. We will. We’ve all just and and, and I did say, Pete, how are you doing? You have thus far laughed, and that’s about it.

Speaker

I mean.

Peta

I I’m I’m lagging but like personally not technically. And I think also technically so.

Speaker

That’s. Perfect.

Quinny

So far so good, and we’re laughing at her appropriate moment, so it’s fine.

Dion

Yeah, that’s cause. That’s good. She’s very far away on a far away planet where this story takes sense. So it takes place today and she is potentially the murder bot.

Quinny

Any second and.

Dion

Any second now she’s going to go rogue and kill people, which is what this show is all about, is it not?

Peta

I’m not making any promises guys.

Quinny

I guess. But you didn’t own Rome.

Peta

Do you know what make that makes that less? Likely.

Dion

Laws.

Peta

Short little TV shows that are kind of fun.

Dion

Ohh OK right.

Jill

Yes.

Quinny

Yeah. Yeah.

Dion

Not laws, not not societal constructs about no.

Peta

Laws. Moores just entertain me.

Dion

No, no, no. Yeah, yeah. The only thing stopping everyone from committing mass murder is. Is is short format entertainment.

Peta

I mean, I don’t know how wrong that.

Dion

Is. Yeah. And we’re contributing to that. That’s right, folks. Don’t murder everyone. It’s going to be OK.

Quinny

I don’t know that I’d call a short. Format though.

Dion

Hey, well, well longer than this one than these episodes of what is it? What we haven’t even said. What are we watch? What are we reviewing? Someone tell me what we’re reviewing.

Jill

We’re reviewing murderbot on.

Dion

Apple Plus on Apple Plus, yes.

Quinny

La La La La La La La La la.

Dion

It does. The music gives me a lot of Danny Elfman vibes, but yes, once again Apple is throwing money which you can see on the screen at television show. Shows. And this is just Oh my God.

Jill

Whoa, we got our hype train incoming.

Quinny

We’ve got a hype train going. I don’t know how we’ve got a hype.

Jill

Oh, that’s three.

Quinny

Train. Go hook up with them. Just come in and just dropping things like there’s no tomorrow.

Dion

Thank you. Great.

Peta

I didn’t even know what a. Hype training. Is for you guys.

Quinny

No, I’m just gonna spam him with some. Thank you for subbing.

Dion

No, we are never. Yeah. Yeah, we we are not going to matter everyone. Thanks to that hype train, we’re not turning them now. We’re gonna go rogue and shoot people.

Quinny

There we go. No.

Speaker

Yay.

Quinny

Yeah, yeah, very exciting. We’ve I don’t think we’ve ever done any kind of training leak. Yay.

Dion

When are we playing D&D?

Quinny

When are we playing D&D again? Well, the question is always is it Thursday yet?

Dion

It’s not Thursday yet. No Tuesday. What are we doing? Motorbike. Let’s get back to the thing talking.

Jill

Better bot.

Dion

About motorbike, yes, yes.

Speaker 3

Bot.

Jill

Cute little TV show about an autistic sick unit who said he was gonna murder a lot of people, but then he just got distracted by TV shows, which sounds. Like my life.

Quinny

I think that’s the best thing.

Peta

Not saying it sounds unfamiliar.

Quinny

Yeah, yeah.

Peta

Doesn’t like eye contact or being touched.

Quinny

Yeah. Yeah. Like when I was writing a brief like thing to go on the website for this, I was like, do I need to say that this is about a, like, a, you know, fairly clearly neurodivergent person, you know, slash robot. And I thought, no, that may be slightly insulting to some of the people who. You know are on the spectrum or whatever, but at the same time. This guy is very clearly kind of going down that path. I mean, and I say guy because he’s a robot, but he’s he’s not a.

Dion

Yes, he doesn’t have any genitals.

Jill

No, no, he’s very Kendall.

Dion

Although you can have them attached.

Quinny

One of the things that I have heard about this that a lot of people have struggled with a bit was that the the book version. There is no discernible gender at all, and so a lot of people kind of saw a SEC unit as.

Jill

Yes, exactly. Oh, OK.

Quinny

Being. Potentially feminine like that because there was no gender, people were able to basically just go well, that’s I’m I relate to that.

Speaker

Ohh.

Dion

Right. Well, this is very definitely Alexander Skarsgard.

Jill

Quinny

And. Yes, yes it is.

Dion

Yeah. So they’ve made, they’ve made a choice there, but of course we wouldn’t know about that because we don’t know what the show is about because. We haven’t had a synopsis yet. Had we no.

Jill

Oh oh, that’s your queue.

Dion

That’s your queue quinnie. Could you please do that in the?

Quinny

That’s that’s your QQ.

Dion

Could you do what **** accent should you try?

Quinny

Ohh God.

Dion

I know you should do it.

Jill

Icelandic robot.

Dion

You have to do it as left wing woke, colonialist.

Quinny

That would just sound like me, except they’re not colonialists. I’m I’m anyway.

Dion

Yes, that is a very good one. Thank you, hawk apocalypse. Thank you. It’s pronouns are slash. Duh. Very good, very good.

Quinny

Nice. I like it. OK.

Dion

Do you want some music behind that? Yeah. OK, we’ll. Do some music.

Quinny

This this is trying to be Icelandic robot. Bleep hello Murderbot follows a self hacking security Android a la SEC unit named Murderbot, who has gained free will but prefer prefers prefer prefers to keep it secret while watching his meat. The series explores murder, but reluctant journey as it navigates dangerous situations and forms unexpected bonds while trying to maintain its desire for solitude and media consumption.

Dion

Nice. There. There you go. Marvelous.

Quinny

Marvelous. Yes, it probably should be like the Swedish chef, but I’m going.

Dion

Yeah for 2nd. Like, I’m pretty sure Scott Scott’s Swedish right.

Quinny

Yeah.

Jill

I mean General area isn’t. It.

Dion

So Nordic.

Peta

Sure. Can I just say that solitude of media consumption sounds amazing.

Quinny

Yeah, yeah. Just sitting there in your own little world, being fed, entertaining shows 500 and something. Episodes of Sanctuary moon. I’d be into that. I mean, actually, I don’t know that I would. Because that show does look.

Peta

Kind of janky, yeah, but I love John Shorty.

Jill

I want this bill series.

Peta

You don’t see that he lends. To it, yeah.

Jill

I want the spin-off series to Murder Bot where we get the actual sanctuary Moon TV series. I wanna watch sanctuary moon.

Dion

I think we kind of already are.

Jill

I honestly caught Greg in that weird facial hair.

Quinny

That would be beautiful and at the same time horrific. I I I love that. It’s so kind of goofy. But like you still know exactly what it’s riffing on, you know, like it’s it’s your Star Trek slash, whatever.

Dion

If you’re gonna say Babylon five, I will. Punch you.

Quinny

Bubble on Fire is a huge pile. Of ****.

Dion

Come on. Soap opera in Spain. Nice. That’s what we’re looking for.

Jill

I think the only thing it was missing was some form of puppet Slash Muppet.

Quinny

Ohh if I mean that for Farscape fans.

Speaker

Yeah.

Dion

Sure.

Quinny

We we love a bit of the. The puppet Muppet.

Dion

So how many episodes? So far, there’s been 6 episodes.

Jill

Yes.

Dion

They’re all very short. Comparatively to what we’re used to.

Jill

I would say. I would say that is the one feature of the show that is disappointing, is how short the episodes.

Quinny

Are it hurts?

Dion

Yes, cause there’s never any resolution.

Jill

Yeah. And if there had just been a whole season drop, I would have easily binged this in a day.

Dion

Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it’s not. They’re pacing it. Out.

Speaker

Hmm.

Dion

Like, but I mean I I’ve you know what? I feel like it is. I feel like it’s really ultimately for. The 20 minutes between ordering food and having it arrive that you can do once a week and it’s just like we’ll just check an episode on this just to pass the time. It’s a time filler. It’s like.

Jill

Ohh.

Speaker

I’m no I’m looking forward.

Quinny

To it. Yeah, I mean.

Peta

It’s like it’s my like Friday night. I’m looking forward to something viewing at the.

Dion

Moment. Yeah. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. I’m not saying it’s like a time filler because it’s there’s nothing else on. I’m sort of going. That’s the kind of. Space I have for it because it’s only 20 minutes worth. It’s just it’s it’s just a bowl of.

Jill

Dion

Ice cream, you know.

Jill

Yeah, but I feel like it has more value than. Just filling.

Quinny

Yeah.

Jill

The time between you know. Dinner being in the microwave and you go to. The toilet like.

Dion

These days in television, it’s. Usually like an hour, hour and a half.

Quinny

You know, yeah, it it is short format but also like snacky television but like so many snacks, I find myself getting to the end of the bag and going ************.

Jill

Yeah, yeah. Honestly, the end of the episode feels like the end of the second act heading into the third, and you just stop and.

Quinny

I guess.

Jill

You don’t get the rest of. It you have to. Wait a week.

Quinny

Yeah. No, I I don’t know whether it’s super expensive or or, but it does feel like an odd like, I know that they’re they’re kind of going for the the half hour sitcom kind of thing like the the you know 22 minute or whatever. Comedy vibe. But. It doesn’t feel quite right for that, perhaps.

Jill

No. I would like a double the length. I want a 40 minute episode.

Dion

Perhaps the allegory of it being the same kind of short format with no real resolution and always a cliffhanger on the end is exactly like the soap opera format. Ohh, it’s just that the soap opera format was 5 shows a week or 4 shows a week. Yeah, so you always did it each day.

Jill

That’s true. Exactly.

Speaker 3

Hmm.

Dion

Maybe, maybe. But you know, I don’t know much.

Quinny

But I know I love you. And that might be all I need. To know, yeah.

Dion

Like it’s it’s sure, but it’s fun. Easily digestible, not terrible characters.

Speaker 3

Hmm.

Dion

Very much all the money on the screen because some of those sets are just that, get expensive.

Speaker

Yep.

Dion

What I look at?

Quinny

Yeah, Speaking of characters who do we like in this show? I mean, obviously we’re we’re all on board for murderbot, yeah. What I mean, let’s talk about the other characters. I want to come back to murder Bot. Like why? Why do we love? Murderbot OK. Mm-hmm. But talk to me about the other characters who have you kind of latched on to. Who have you found? And. You really like or don’t like.

Peta

Don’t make me remember the names of the characters please.

Jill

I yes, I have to say I’m really gonna struggle with the names because these episodes are short. So short, I don’t have enough time.

Quinny

Sorry, is that?

Dion

Megan Mensa, Garath and Pinley Rathi, Barwood, BAWAG and Arada.

Quinny

To bond with so.

Jill

I like the doctor. What’s what’s the doctor’s name again?

Peta

From Lee Bibi.

Dion

Eh.

Quinny

You’re awesome. Or, as in David, there’s Martian.

Jill

No, not the small chin. The, The, the lady.

Quinny

Oh Mensa.

Speaker

God.

Jill

Mensa, like doctor Mensa.

Dion

There you go.

Quinny

Yes. Yeah, she’s she’s good. And I’m fascinated that all of the characters seem to have something else going on.

Jill

Like yes, like.

Quinny

She’s she’s got some some anxiety and panic attacks and things like that going on. And you’re like, oh, wow, OK, relatable.

Jill

But I feel like I like. Doctor Mensa’s willingness to like. Project onto SEC unit and humanize him and try to relate to him. And treat him as part. Of the crew, yeah. I like that kind of personality trait.

Dion

Because like I really liked the. The the setup of the world or the universe that the living in you can think about murderbot for a second, but I really enjoyed seeing the two different sides of how is this Galaxy set up? One there is the corporate side, which basically you’re brought into indentured servitude.

Quinny

Hmm.

Dion

You have to work off anything that.

Speaker

You.

Dion

Like want. At all. You’re basically. It’s like you’re gonna sign a contract. If you want a job. Great. That’s going to put you into debt to pay off your work debt that you ask for anything that you want. And then there’s this other colonial side, which was a different planet, which is just really lovely. It seems like a really lovely planet, but they’re all poor because they’re not focused on money. And I was just kind of like. I really like those guys. That’s great. You know, they seem like the nice part of space. And so you get to have two different. Evil and good things, which which is interesting. Anyway, we’re focused on these hippie colonials.

Quinny

Yeah.

Speaker

Yes.

Quinny

Who do you? Who do you dig?

Peta

I I. I mean, I basically just dig murderbot. Like I’ve I I feel murderbot deeply.

Jill

Yeah, same.

Peta

I I I. Like the the the the Captain Slash team leader Slash. What’s her name? Who desperately wants to believe the best of him and has panic attacks? Because I also feel her deeply. And that’s where I’m at.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Peta

With that, that and. I feel like I like the relationship that they’re developing. And and. Uh. Her obvious misgivings, but desperation to to align her beliefs about. About humanity and goodness with what is happening, regardless of whether that’s necessarily a good idea, yes.

Speaker

Hmm.

Jill

I agree.

Speaker

Yep.

Quinny

Yeah, I I was fascinated by, like, the the sort of setup of the, the the group because it is kind of like that. You know, we’re a a a non leadership based entirely collective decision making group that that has no leader but at the. Time. You know, we have a leader and ohh and we’re we’re we’re open and we’re free love. And we’ve got a throttle that you know, we’re gonna have a contract for.

Dion

Hey. This is this was fine like and I actually gotta say my favorite character outside of the motorboat is Ashki Khanna, which is rather, he’s the worm hole expert because he’s the the guy who’s just like, yeah, I’m just here for a good time. I’m gonna decorate things. I’m gonna do art and make music, and I’m also a wormhole. But.

Quinny

He’s also a ********.

Dion

Yeah, he’s completely useless, but you know.

Jill

That has had no weapons. Trading, doesn’t know what gun looks like, they don’t know. Which end to hold?

Dion

I mean, he skipped it, but he’s really high level on that computer game.

Quinny

I did love that the moment that he does fire, he just knocks himself out with. It’s like, perfect, beautiful.

Speaker

Yes.

Quinny

Dion

Really like that? It showed that there is a space that that, that, that society believes that creativity and all of that kind of loving, nurturing anxiety creates a space for everyone. So you’d like usually on these science fiction shows you everyone has to have a particular skill. It’s like the bridge thing. It’s like cons officer and navigation and like. No, no, like a real human expedition. Sometimes there’s just a dude. What are they there for? I don’t know. But if we don’t look after them, they’re.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

Going to die. Yeah, that’s that whole kind of. Nice and joyous little thing about it.

Speaker

Hmm.

Dion

And meanwhile, just waiting for the murder bot to murder everyone because he really wants to.

Jill

Yeah. Will we also have?

Quinny

Yeah.

Jill

Probably the most recognizable in the cast besides Alexander Skarsgard is David de Smochin as Graffin, who is a human augmented being. He has like cybernetic parts and I think he definitely has a complex about.

Dion

Yeah.

Jill

SEC unit. And I think he believes that, you know, his augmented human self is a bit superior to an actual robot. Or Android, I guess you’d call him.

Dion

Yeah.

Jill

Yeah. And so there’s a bit of a rivalry between the two and a bit of suspicion and a bit of.

Dion

I thought he was a bit of a. ****. But then. I’m kind of finding.

Jill

Yeah, well, yeah, sometimes it’s not wrong.

Dion

As I go through, I’m like. Yeah, yeah, sometimes it’s wrong.

Peta

And he’s got a crush. And that’s endearing.

Dion

Yeah, it’s always it’s or or is it slightly creepy?

Quinny

In.

Speaker

Stops.

Peta

Listening. Guessing dearing.

Dion

Stop. Stop, sniff. Stop sniffing the pillows.

Peta

You’re allowed to have a crop. Well, I mean, yeah, there’s that.

Dion

Yeah, I mean, just, yeah, don’t don’t do that. That’s that’s, that’s not for no.

Quinny

It’s a little weird.

Dion

Yeah, but then that goes out of its way to sort of make that character weird, but that character is also actually quite good. Oh, they’re all fine. I like all these colonists. They’re just doing their thing.

Quinny

I do. I do love that. They’re also, you know, pretty ******* stupid at times. Like the the first encounter with the monsters, where? Second, it’s like, no, you’ve really gotta run. You’ve got you’ve OK? Yeah. No, you’re just not. You’re ignoring me.

Dion

I mean like the the, the the premise. Of the character of the Murderbot, which is. Ohh I’ve become self aware I’ve managed to bypass all of my programming and then you sort of calculating without moving. It’s like if I let people know that I’m going to kill everyone or start killing people then they’re going. I can extrapolate what’s going to happen to me, so I’ll just kind of play a. Long and I think that’s really quite smart because that’s kind of what a robot would do is like, yeah, I’m fine. It’s like that one’s creeping me out. It’s like, no, no, I’m all good. I’m good. You just just keep doing your thing.

Jill

Yeah, like he doesn’t want to murder anybody yet.

Dion

And. No.

Quinny

No, I think murder feels like a like a lot of work, you know.

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

There’s a lot of cleaning up, there’s a lot of covering in your. Own **** and stuff, that’s that’s.

Dion

Yeah. And it’s true. Preko, the Murderbot just wants to be left alone. It does, and only and it was really. He’s real happy to be on this quest once he figured out he could realign the satellite and get all the content streaming content, he.

Quinny

So what C?

Dion

Could watch just. Sitting there watching TV. Go on. Sure. Yeah, no worries.

Jill

This is where I relate. To SEC unit too closely. Because I procrastinate on the thing that I’m supposed. To be doing. By watching TV.

Peta

Don’t we all those business people?

Jill

Yeah. I’m like, ah, I should really do this. But it’s too hot.

Peta

But then you’re also. You’re watching TV while you’re doing the thing you’re supposed to.

Jill

It would just be so much easier if I just sat here and watched television instead of do that thing.

Peta

Be doing?

Quinny

Sweet, sweet television.

Jill

Yeah, my do that thing is like laundry. But his do that thing is murder.

Quinny

And treated with exactly the same energy. You know, I guess I’ve gotta do the murder eventually. Yeah. I mean, the murder, the, the, the, the victims are piling up, and I am gonna need to kill them sooner or later. But I don’t want to do. It right now. Yeah, please never clip that entire section out. That would be.

Jill

Will we may see it come.

Dion

Very awkward. Aren’t aren’t we all a little bit of murder?

Quinny

Hmm.

Dion

Not. Don’t we all see? Yes. Yes. Inside we all want to be the murder.

Peta

In our hearts.

Jill

Bot insiders. There are two murder bots.

Peta

Technical.

Quinny

One of them is blue and on is.

Dion

And the other one is Alexander Skarsgard. For some weird reason. But I like how they explained that too. It’s like, yeah, they it’s cheaper to grow flesh. For some of these parts, because they’re really good neuro conductors and you know you can’t, I like how they explain that away. It’s like it’s it’s pointless trying to recreate the human body. For a certain way, we’re a very complex Organism that is really adapted to that great purpose. So you just grow. It. From a VAT of the same stuff, and it’s just as cheap than to try to replicate it in machinery parts.

Quinny

Which is really.

Speaker

That’s fun.

Quinny

Like the the the sequence in. I think it’s episode 5 where they show the the factory that’s growing the the builds of of of murder bot and various other SEC units. Yeah. And you know.

Peta

Yeah.

Dion

And sex and sex units.

Quinny

Yeah, yes, absolutely 6 units. But I love the idea that, you know, like all things, if it’s been running long enough, the people building it don’t give a ****. No, no, no. You know, this is beautiful, magnificent technology. It’s like, oh, yeah, we’re just swinging arms around. And yeah, like, that one’s close enough. It’ll go with that one. Because I’ve built 50 of them today and I don’t care.

Dion

Hurry up. My quote is not full yet. I need to get. Out of here. Don’t just stay late, do more work.

Quinny

It worries me that there’s only like 4 episodes left, I know.

Peta

Does it even given how short they kind of feel? Yeah, yeah.

Quinny

I really feel like I don’t know where we like, where we’re gonna leave off a a series cause I feel like we’re slowly building to something.

Dion

Yeah, I’m getting the idea that there’s like, you know, well, we thought they’re on a planet by themselves and they’re not on the planet by themselves. There’s another research team on another side, but they’re they’re like the corporate research team. And now it’s all about corporate espionage and making money and discoveries and weird stuff that we don’t quite know about. And this is where we’re starting to get into the sort of meat of the whole thing. And also motorbike has been discovered. That he’s not actually just normal. He is a he is a motorboat and they kind of I like how they kind of deal with that was like, well, we kind of need you and he’s like, yeah, but I should murder you all for knowing that. And then everyone’s like, but don’t. But we like you. You’re. You’re a friend, right? And he’s like, maybe. Maybe I will.

Quinny

Maybe I won’t. It’s OK. It’ll work on that.

Dion

Yeah, it’s fun.

Peta

If someone else. ‘S almost no power of this in the 1st 10 minutes though.

Dion

What happened in the 1st 10 minutes?

Peta

The like voice over the the the the voiceover bit at the beginning before you kind of get used to the character. That seems like maybe.

Dion

Oh.

Peta

It’s just bad.

Dion

The narrator aspect to it.

Peta

And full of exposition and a little wooden and a little like.

Speaker

Yeah.

Peta

I guess also before I cause I don’t know, I just saw Alice, Dennis, Skarsgard and sci-fi, so I just put it on, I guess didn’t think, didn’t realise it was a comedy and was kind of like. What’s happening and where is this going?

Dion

Yeah, it is. It’s, it’s. A strange 1 to get into.

Peta

Is it possibly terrible?

Dion

Yes. Yeah. Because when you start getting exposition in a voiceover at the start of the show, you’re like, oh, no.

Quinny

Yeah, they couldn’t work out how to do this. Any other way?

Speaker

****. ****.

Dion

But you know, give her the benefit of the doubt. Now we understand that there’s a quirk and there’s a crazy whole other TV show of what was. The. Soap opera sanctuary moon. That’s right that we all want to see the real kind of crazy. Because did it remind you guys of black that Black Mirror episode where they were doing the star?

Jill

Thank you.

Dion

Like spin off. Everyone was a bit.

Quinny

Speaker 8

Yeah, I want.

Peta

Deon, everything reminds me of like a mirror episode now.

Dion

Yeah, the news waking up reminds me of Black Mirror for folks like.

Peta

Which thing that we’re living is reminding us of Black Mirror.

Dion

Yeah.

Peta

Episodes just.

Quinny

All of them.

Dion

All of it. There’s no joy in life anymore anyway. I’m going.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

To go.

Quinny

What I do? I OK? There’s one question I have and I don’t think it’s intentional, but John chose outfit as the captain.

Jill

Yeah.

Quinny

It reminds me, oddly, of his his outfit for spikes Beagle in.

Jill

Ohh no, they’re different the different outfits.

Quinny

I know they’re different outfits, but there’s something about the collar. The way the collar happened and I was like, well, that was intentional to make people go.

Jill

Quinny

No, it’s a little spike spike, spike. Really. But.

Jill

I don’t know, can we? Bebop is futuristic as well, like it’s sci-fi, so yeah. Asymmetrical sci-fi colours, I guess.

Quinny

True. Yeah, we do. We do love some asymmetrical collars around here.

Peta

How do you feel about John shows extremely sincere performance?

Jill

I love it. I want the spin-off. I wanna watch that.

Speaker

This is so good.

Peta

There’s just not. This is something there’s something about, like the seriousness of.

Quinny

Hmm.

Peta

The seriousness and the ridiculous, which is obviously entirely intentional and the point of the comedy, but I don’t know. I just. Just because it’s John show there’s just kind of something about it that’s like. Just like that.

Jill

Imagine being. Imagine being the cast of a TV series within a TV series and you. Only have to do.

Peta

Yeah.

Jill

Specific scenes and there’s no context to them.

Quinny

You don’t know where you come from. You don’t know where you’re going next. No, you only see this one scene. Give it your all ******* don’t hold that.

Jill

Yeah.

Peta

Sounds like there’s, you know, should be. Like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, a dead style.

Speaker 4

I’ll make good joke.

Quinny

Yes, please. I even quite like Jack Mcbrayer in those bits. Like, yes, he has. He’s got the right kind of goofy thing that works for it.

Dion

Oh. I like I also reading like the cast list of that which I I find or it’s called the rise and fall of Sanctuary Moon fully. But I love that everyone is it’s like the the listing is is it’s Clark Gregg as Arrietty playing Lieutenant Culero.

Quinny

Yes, technically yes.

Dion

Like, I mean it’s it’s John Terry.

Jill

So he has a he has a name in the series and his and his characters.

Dion

Yeah. And the the character name. So it’s John Cho and ecny Jeff Kem playing at Captain Hossian.

Jill

Name his amazing.

Dion

Like I. Love that. This is kind of the commitment.

Speaker

That’s great.

Dion

To the bit is what I.

Quinny

Respect, I love the idea that you know, sometime down the track they will run into the cast of Sanctuary Moon. Nothing at all.

Peta

Yeah.

Quinny

Like the characters that they play and watch SEC unit world just come to pieces.

Jill

Yeah, like a Comic Con episode or something.

Quinny

Oh my God.

Dion

I love the fact that this robot loves that thing so much that he’s learning how to react, to interact with humans from that, but also that show is teaching good lessons, like really good sci-fi teaches good lessons. So no wonder the robot became.

Speaker

Yeah.

Jill

Yes.

Dion

Good or ish?

Peta

But well, I mean, maybe, maybe not. Yep.

Dion

Well, here’s here’s here’s.

Speaker

Right.

Dion

A here’s an interesting thing for you. If you were to teach, like give, I don’t know. OK, here we go. You wanna grok AI gets put into a robot dog drone with a flame thrower. What science fiction television show? Are you gonna feed it? To make it good? Like a good dog robot thing.

Quinny

Bicentennial man.

Speaker 8

Really.

Quinny

Yeah, that was Robin Williams is a lovable robot.

Dion

OK, I said. Tell like what? Science fiction.

Quinny

Ohh sorry television show.

Dion

TV show, but. Sure, we’ll just feed it one movie. And hope.

Quinny

So this is definitely not Clifford. I’m gonna go not Cujo.

Speaker

Jetsons.

Dion

The Jets. Not cujo. Well, this is again not a television series. It’s science fiction TV series.

Quinny

OK, fine.

Dion

God.

Quinny

I don’t know. Are we wanting it to learn from the the series? Are we wanting it to pick? Up on the.

Dion

That’s what you have. Like what? What has the the greatest kind of message that comes through like, I mean I think a no brainer is kind of Star Trek the next generation.

Jill

Oh, I was gonna say Voyager.

Dion

It has good messages voyage. It’s always kind. Of stuff you have a.

Jill

Side blog in it. That’s like to be human.

Dion

True. True. So there’s next next Gen.

Quinny

Started Star Trek again now. OK.

Jill

Ohh yeah. Well well, data is an Android so yeah.

Dion

Yeah, yeah. I probably. I probably wouldn’t feed at Deep Space 9 though, because they could get very morally Gray. Very quickly.

Quinny

Yeah. No, no, no, no. There’s like, oh, it’s just gonna keep watching that one episode in the in the Pale moonlight and get more and more morally ******* Gray as we go. Eventually, you’ll find your robot dog sipping a glass of ******* whiskey and going. That’s why I killed them all.

Dion

Yeah. Cancel. And I don’t care if you didn’t like it. Anyway, yes.

Quinny

I I saw that Casper saying put feed it on Stargate and I’m like, uhhh no. Stargate had a real feeling of like American military in space. Yeah. It’s like it’s colonialism, the show.

Dion

Yeah.

Jill

Yeah. Or or their authoritarianism 25.

Dion

Yeah, yeah.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

Hi where where? The American Military industrial complex. We’ve arrived on your planet. Would you like to buy some guns?

Quinny

We we we’ve found this technology that can take us all over the universe and we’re going to use it to colonise. We’re develop trading through weapons.

Dion

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, we’re gonna. We’re gonna give you guns, and then you’re going to overthrow your oppressor.

Quinny

In fact. Hmm. Like when you think of it that way, it’s.

Dion

Real nice. Yeah, it’s like, oh. It’s the space CIA.

Quinny

And how many years later, the gold suddenly become the darlings of America.

Speaker

Yeah, like.

Dion

I knew that good he was. He was just guy. Can’t, can’t do.

Quinny

******* hell. OK, maybe farscape. Where there’s just a lot. Of puppet *******.

Dion

Was it?

Quinny

Farscape was real weird, man, but it. Didn’t work I.

Dion

Have any?

Peta

Fascade was fantastic.

Quinny

I don’t remember. I don’t remember the. Fuster not.

Dion

Puppet ******* in Farscape the.

Quinny

Rigel Domino Rigel, the 13th. He tried to **** everything he could and **** wherever he could because he ******. Was on fire. Uh. And I don’t know. Admittedly, no. That’s probably the only puppet that actually tried to.

Dion

Have sex? I never. I never got into fast gate because it kept getting things like Episode 1, Episode 9, Episode 3, Episode 4. It’s at 11:00 PM. It’s at 3:00 in the afternoon. It’s on a different network now. That was literally the.

Quinny

Oh, it was ohh the Australian airing schedule of of sci-fi. Yeah, yeah.

Peta

I mean, I’ve watched it on streaming after. Yeah, after the fact, just a thing that you.

Dion

Yeah. You’re a better person than I.

Peta

Can do.

Dion

Sure, when you’re dissociating and not trying not to murder people. Just let me watch my shows.

Quinny

Is murder bot your sanctuary moons?

Dion

What?

Peta

Well, I don’t know my sanctuary moon. My sanctuary moon changes based on the hyper focus. I mean my sanctuary room was polled dark for a while.

Dion

For anyone out there who’s wanting to watch Poldark at the moment, it’s all available on iview for free to watch in Australia. To stream.

Peta

Do it.

Dion

Yeah. You good to see you.

Peta

I mean, it’s a very specific genre for for, you know, a very specific person, but do it.

Dion

Apparently there’s a lot of 6 pack in the first season.

Peta

There’s a lot of 6 packing multiple seasons.

Dion

There you go. See. He’s taken from someone who’s watched. It. The six pack per season. OK, that was good. Should we have a quick reading of the show? More about that or does anyone have anything else they want to bring up about the motorbike? I mean, it’s it’s so annoying because it is just not giving us enough resolution yet.

Speaker

MHM.

Dion

Umm. And they’re short episodes, so I can’t really say that. You know what else to talk about and what? I just wanna know what happens at the end of the season.

Quinny

I haven’t watched it yet.

Jill

Yeah.

Quinny

Umm I I’m I’m not fully up to speed on that last episode, so I there’s a lot of stuff that I’m I kind of wanna go do. We know who these things are. Do we know who the evil motorboats are yet? And stuff like that, but not yet, yeah.

Dion

No, still no.

Speaker 3

Hmm.

Dion

There’s no resolution. Just more questions.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

And who is who is Le Bibi?

Jill

Ohh God the dumb names.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

Fine. OK, ratings.

Peta

I I I’m. Having fun watching too? Sure. And it’s just like, you know. It’s not. It’s not. It’s not incredibly complicated art, but it is successful comedy and it is. A take on the now incredibly popular genre of of machines, machines or machines, humans or humans. Machines and. Who is evil and who do we love in general? And it’s one of the ones that I have enjoyed. More. Then many that I have recently complained about.

Dion

Excellent, not so many, but wise.

Peta

I mean, I mean, with this kind of thing, of course there are million **** wise, but if you set it up right, you don’t care to ask, it’s suspension of disbelief like. You know, once in the world, that’s all in the 1st 10 minutes because I was like, I’m gonna have. A lot of freaking budweis. Here. But then when they finished the exposition and kind of got into the story and you settled into the character and the narration style. Then you’re like ohh, I understand the genre now and I understand that Budweiser entirely unnecessary because it’s a light comedy. Yeah, and we don’t need too hard sci-fi, a light comedy. And and we don’t need to. Hard sci-fi. Everything that sci-fi and that is just nice. So true.

Dion

Sure.

Peta

I don’t know. I’m gonna say I’m. I’m. I’m looking. I’m gonna say like 87. I mean, good time. OK. I don’t have any good time. I don’t. I don’t have. I don’t.

Speaker

Oh.

Peta

Have any major complaints right now? Reserves the option to adjust after another 4 episodes if it really shuts me.

Quinny

Off, I mean, it could like **** itself on the landing and you know.

Dion

Fair enough.

Peta

Exactly.

Quinny

Real bad, but I I honestly don’t quite see how it could do that.

Dion

It’s, you know, when he showed itself on the landing, if he. Didn’t murder if he. Just cut sick at one point and be like just gonna murder a bunch of people. It’s the point of the ******* show. They’re like falling skies, then.

Speaker

Yeah.

Jill

I I have such a crush on murderbot. I just think he’s so sweet and he’s a my sweet summer child. I just want everything for for murder. But I don’t know what it is. Skarsgard is just so charming in this role. It’s. Absolutely ridiculous. I love the costumes. I love the production design. I think it’s it’s such a an immersive kind of world that they’ve put us in. And all of these characters are just so flawed and they’re just like. A massive amount of relatability to to each of them. I think I’m going to. Give it an. 85I. Really wish the friggin episodes were longer. I just. Yeah, I’m.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Jill

Really enjoying it. It’s it’s a lot of fun.

Quinny

Yeah. I feel you. I’m I I look, I’m enjoying it. I I love that I’m on board for every episode. And you know, I jump in fairly quickly. But by the time you’ve watched the previously on and then you get into the episode and you feel like, OK, we’ve done our setup, we’ve we’ve covered where we were last episode. Now we move the story forward. Just a little bit and it starts to get interesting and then stops. And you’re like ****** ******. Yeah, I have not felt quite so. Like what? Just interrupt us about a show as I. Have for murder bot like? Yeah, if it was a 40 minute episode, maybe. I don’t know, just a little bit more because it doesn’t feel like you know how you can watch like a Brooklyn 99 or something like that. And they’re. There are simple setup and you know a bunch of gags and then you pay it off. And that’s the episode done, but this is building world and instead of creating characters and it’s. Letting you into all these little character quirks and everything. And it’s like, ************, just give me more. So yeah, look, I’m, I’m it’s it’s 95 for me too. I’m really enjoying it. I just. I want more give me more.

Dion

Exposition complexity. Me. Cliffhanger. Damn it. And then the next one is like minor resolution exposition, complexity, cliffhanger. Ohh for ***** sake.

Quinny

Perfect.

Dion

Yeah. Look, I’m. I’m. I’m not having a bad time with it, but I’m just having an annoying time where it’s just like, ohh, this is show you. I think you’re you. You’re right. Because I’ve been watching it in a way which is like I’ve I have to. Which the recap to make sure I got everything, and then I watched the full credits, which is very Danny Elfman. Happy kind of fun credit thing. I like the credit music and everything, and I’ve I’ve been watching it going ohh this is good, but it’s also very repetitive. I think it kind of zones me out and then when it starts. The episode I’m like, what’s going on? Who are all these people? That’s right. Oh, it’s murder bodies. He murdered people, yet? Not really, no. Bit of a shame 78. Maybe 76?

Peta

Yeah, you should try doing what I’m doing and not watch the recap or the opening credits.

Dion

That sounds.

Quinny

Ohh, only like 15 minutes of show.

Peta

Yeah. And that’s why I don’t need to watch the recap, because for 15 minutes of show, I can actually give it my full focus.

Speaker

But I’ve been.

Dion

Having to watch it week to week. You know you.

Peta

So have I.

Dion

See. I’ve only watched it too anyway, right? This is watch.

Quinny

Them all again. So sorry, Dan. Did you just say 76878? I thought I heard you. I you started 78. I thought you.

Dion

Sure. I think it’s sounds it’s 76 I went. Down a little bit.

Quinny

Said 76, so I.

Dion

I think 70. I’m going to go 76. It’s OK. It’s it’s I’m still not 100% sold on it because I kind of go, oh, you look like you’re getting somewhere, but you’re not. And I have a feeling we’re going to get completely ****** over by the first season and then we’ll be like, oh, well, I want to know what happens in the apples, apples going to go like, Nah.

Speaker

Was like ohh OK. All right.

Dion

Be like *** **** it.

Peta

Ohh look they haven’t. They haven’t been a big they haven’t been super guilty of that.

Quinny

No.

Dion

No. Yeah, they’re not, they’re not Amazonian.

Quinny

Which has been nice.

Jill

Not not in the Netflix way.

Dion

The **** out of it?

Quinny

No, I mean it’s, it’s not like you know, they let sea run for two ******* seasons.

Dion

The the. Yeah, yeah. But they’re also pulling back now.

Speaker

Didn’t.

Jill

Have didn’t have 3.

Quinny

Well, three, I don’t know too many.

Dion

It.

Peta

I feel like it was three, yeah.

Dion

And like if you wanna go back to that masterpiece. You too. Can watch see.

Speaker

No.

Dion

Showing Jason Momoa. Which which would you like the panic attack one or the advertorial for murderbot, I mean 6 units. What’s a panic? Attack. What’s a pack? What happens when, like, you know, a a robot has to come face to face with humanity and all they want to do is kill people? That has to. Try and calm someone down.

Speaker 3

Look at the screen. Why? There’s something that works for me when I’m.

Speaker

Having a heart attack.

Speaker 3

I don’t have a heart, so no, not that.

Speaker

Century moon.

Speaker 3

It’s a soothing episode.

Dion

Ohh, there you go. See, it’s a very soothing episode that we get to have there, which is like, are you watching a a soap opera?

Speaker 1

No.

Dion

Come on. Yes, they did say to me. Fine.

Quinny

Yeah. We find the online clips, they are the ones that are. Censored, I’m sorry.

Dion

Yeah. Yeah. So like, what else are we supposed to do? What do you wanna see the ad? For the the actual, if you wanna buy one, I can play that.

Speaker 8

The company is leading the industry in premium security units. We make terraforming less terrifying. And now introducing the certified pre-owned program, allowing even the most budget conscious surveys in the corporation rim to feel secure. Each refurbished unit is equipped with an assortment of available features fans.

Speaker 3

And see.

Speaker 8

Including on-demand weapons. And an authentic Gen. 2 governor module to immediately punish disobedience with excruciating.

Speaker 3

Pain. I am the vicious rogue sick unit.

Speaker 8

Choose from the models you know and trust.

Dion

Protect humans I serve.

Speaker 8

Humans or save some hard currency and purchase prior.

Speaker 3

In humans.

Speaker 8

Every certified pre-owned security unit comes with a limited 90 day warranty warranty void. If unit is dismembered, reprogrammed, submerged, vandalized, or touched inappropriately. The company you’ve never been safer. If you cannot be guaranteed direct eye contact with second, it should be avoided at all times. Not all information guaranteed canonical.

Quinny

So.

Speaker 3

Melt me down.

Dion

Yes, that, that that was your perfect ad for ESSEC unit. I like all of that.

Quinny

Ladies, would you buy us AC unit if it looked like Alexander’s cargo?

Dion

Well, you didn’t see I.

Jill

Mean today is security in.

Quinny

It, I said, sick, I said.

Dion

I mean, if you bought a robot with that head and then it just put its helmet down and you’re like, wow, Alexander Skarsgard was the model for this robot. I’ve lucked out here completely.

Speaker

Yeah.

Jill

Yeah, it’s like ohh, I’m getting the the optional extra package.

Dion

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Can I have the Creighton Greenall attachment, please? Dear yeah, yeah. Then that’s getting into the companion robot era, and I don’t want to. Think about that movie in that way again.

Quinny

Yeah, it’s creepy and weird real quick.

Jill

Yeah. Yeah, go watch companion.

Dion

Ohh Speaking of killer robots. Ohh.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

Soon.

Jill

Oh my God. Yes, we have Megan 2.0 next week. Ohh.

Dion

Yep.

Jill

My God, I can’t. Eight. I can’t wait.

Quinny

Yeah, trailer. I was like ohh well.

Peta

That centres could have ended very differently. I’m. Like, wait, what? Yeah, haven’t watched the news. Today.

Dion

Yeah, that’s fine.

Quinny

Speaking of killer robots, yeah, believe it or not, they’ve moved into Palestine. No, actually. Actually, you know the one that really got me sorry, this is this is current events and like the the world and all but watching the the birthday parade for the mango Mussolini and you know the the people marching down there and seeing the one. By marching, holding his drone.

Dion

Not flying, just holding the drone.

Quinny

I was just like. What are you doing?

Dion

Look, real love squeaky.

Peta

Well, it does have a it’s because it’s stabilised on a gimbal.

Speaker 3

Huh.

Peta

That’s why.

Quinny

What? What? The the guy. Was holding his own drone.

Peta

Oh, if it’s a drone, like if it’s a. Drone with a camera in it, yeah.

Dion

No, no, no, no, no, no, it was it was like ohh this guy’s a drone operator and instead of flying the drone down in front of him, he’s just holding it.

Quinny

But it but it.

Peta

Ohh right, it wasn’t like holding and filming with it.

Quinny

Literally. OK, Saunders went along.

Dion

No, no, no, just holding. It as a split look, I’ve got a. Probably probably because there was.

Quinny

I see, like everybody else is getting around in their tanks and **** and. He’s there, I’m hoping.

Peta

Right, right.

Dion

One of the other greatest things was that because it was that 75th anniversary, they did a whole thing three years from the Revolutionary War all the way through to the current thing, and they had to get all of the costumes from Hollywood. Because they did not have enough of the dress, so they hired all of the dress to put soldiers into that from. Good. Anyway, squeaky tank. Go look it up. It’s fine. We don’t want to.

Quinny

Yeah, squeaky squeaky tank is the.

Dion

Think about this crazy ******* guy.

Quinny

By far the funniest. Thing anyway. Yeah, let’s Reagan. Let’s Reagan.

Dion

Yeah, it’s horror. It’s horror. Or faz.

Jill

Yeah. Anyway, Megan, too? Yeah. Yeah. Next week. That’s Reagan 2.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

Miss Regan.

Jill

I love that sassy little *****. I can’t wait. For the second movie.

Quinny

The the trailer, she definitely has more safe than even the.

Jill

She’s a county diva. I’m. I’m so ready.

Dion

First, yeah, yeah, is it, is it Meg? 3 Meg, furious for the third one. I don’t know. Yeah. Yeah, that’s the one that’s coming up out of looking forward to that one. And which one we like, you know. Now I want to see them in the same sort of world. World, which is murderbot and Miss Reagan.

Jill

Oh yeah. Megan. Secure it.

Dion

Yeah, I’ll sense it up.

Quinny

You know, we we can do a robot Avengers like that and just have the the one from companion, Miss Reagan and Secunia all just going and being like ****** robots.

Jill

Yeah.

Dion

Sure. And Roy from Blade Runner.

Quinny

I’m pretty sure he’s.

Speaker 1

Dead. Yeah, but.

Dion

Like no, if you’re just going to do this kind of putting ******** together.

Peta

Fine, honey.

Dion

I don’t care if.

Peta

They.

Dion

Yeah, timelines don’t matter. We can make. This work, Glados. Yes.

Quinny

I mean, if you watched the that predator film, you’re right. Absolutely. The lines don’t matter. Doesn’t matter at all. What else have people been watching? Anything good?

Peta

I mean, this is the good thing I’ve been watching.

Jill

Poker face?

Quinny

Ohh nice.

Jill

Latest episode also had John Cho in it.

Dion

He gets everywhere.

Jill

Doing the rounds.

Quinny

Just chow everywhere.

Speaker

Yeah.

Jill

Did anybody see the trailer for the new Knives out flick that’s coming out?

Quinny

Soon. No, not yet, yes.

Dion

Oh, the new knives out.

Jill

Uh, we have our third in the. Series from Ryan Johnson.

Quinny

Wake up dead, man.

Speaker

Yeah.

Jill

Another All Star cast.

Quinny

Yeah, like I really love the first two, so I’m kind of keen to see. See more of that.

Peta

They are entertaining.

Dion

I I I haven’t seen anything I I missed. I was supposed to go and see Eddington. Which is that. Movie, but I don’t know.

Jill

The Ari aster. Weston.

Dion

Yeah, which apparently is fascinating, and I need to see it. Well, I hope everyone can see it when it comes out, but I haven’t seen that yet. I didn’t get to go. And nothing else, because I don’t really want to go and see how to train your dragon or the next karate kid. I should. I’d like to see ballerina, but it I haven’t been for public consumption. So just what’s on the streaming services?

Quinny

I’ve I’ve heard that ballerina is is a hot mess but is.

Speaker

Ohh.

Quinny

Enjoyable. Ohh like.

Peta

Yeah, might be what? Remind me what? Ballerina.

Jill

Is the John Wicks spin.

Peta

Off. Yeah, I’ll hold on that one until I’ve got. A bit of headspace.

Dion

From the world of John Wick.

Quinny

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by the the new trailer that came out today for the naked gun. The new. One with less guns. I like it’s just a throwback to all of those old naked gun, you know, films with most of the same gags, but I’m actually there for it. I’m like, cool, give me the the bad, you know, jokes and everything.

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

Sweet. Sign me up. Ohh Speaking of which. Probably. I think the biggest announcement that that has put fans on their back foot for the entire week. Finally, finally, Spaceballs 2.

Jill

Nobody was ever saying. Finally, except for Mel Brooks, maybe.

Quinny

Are you kidding me? 99.

Dion

I was watching the the the scroll trailer, you know where it came through the scroll and it was explaining all the things that Star Wars had done in the interim, I.

Quinny

MHM.

Dion

Was. Like I’m not going to mention that pilot for Spaceballs a cartoon.

Quinny

No, no, no, leave them that.

Dion

One off not. Not talking about that, that you. Made did you? Cuz it was real bad? Umm.

Quinny

But the exciting thing is that the the the original Dark Helmet Rick Moranis will be back. He has he’s coming out of retirement.

Speaker

Terrible.

Jill

Wow.

Dion

I hope that they make it in a nice and funny way.

Quinny

Hmm, that’s me.

Dion

Too, actually, there’s something I did watch while I have since last week, I have finally seen Craven the.

Peta

Ah, tell us all about it.

Speaker

Why?

Quinny

Why?

Dion

You know.

Jill

I also watched it a couple of weeks ago just because, like for Completionist M and it was so bad.

Dion

In the. In the realm of this.

Jill

Pete, if you’ve ever needed a more, but why movie? You will not find one in this film. This is the most but wise.

Dion

I would. I would think of it more as a.

Jill

You’d have to cram into one movie.

Dion

More of a **** wipe movie and.

Jill

Yeah.

Dion

But yeah, look, I mean I. Love the six pack. That’s great. I mean also I I I do look at Rusty. I like rusty. Mate. What are you doing?

Speaker 3

Just.

Dion

Just phoning it in, it feels like you just showed up and be like.

Speaker

Yeah. So yeah.

Jill

Yeah, whatever. Yeah, I can do any accent you want. They all sound exactly the same. They’ll be.

Dion

Yeah, I’ll be rough.

Quinny

Mm-hmm.

Jill

I’m definitely different.

Dion

I love the other. He’s almost like one of the people who is almost a franchise killer.

Jill

Yeah. Ohh pretty kanga Craven and Madam Webb and Morbius are all in the same universe of terribleness.

Dion

You know. I mean, yeah, I still.

Jill

They’re all on.

Dion

The same level I still write Madam Webb’s law because I look Dakota Johnson. I don’t know if she’s a genie. She’s a.

Jill

She could not act her way out of a. Wet paper bag.

Dion

Yeah, yeah, she’s a bit Nicolas Cage in the way. It’s like is this. Actually smart like is this funny? Because you’re you’re bad, or is this you’re bad?

Speaker

Huh.

Dion

Like, I don’t know, she always looks like she’s. What is it? Someone she looks. She’s having a conversation with you. But looking through you to something else.

Quinny

Like, yeah, I’ve, I’ve.

Jill

I love limes.

Quinny

I like, I think that Mobius and Craven both have some kind of like you can see a through line of what was intended as a story, whereas Madam Webb feels like. Like it’s it’s been completely reconstructed in in the edit and. Makes **** all sense all the way. Through it like, yeah.

Dion

I mean, it’s just funny that that the Craven movie is just dumb. Like it it.

Quinny

None of.

Jill

Oh, it’s so ******* dumb.

Dion

It has a story, but it’s just a ******* dumb story.

Quinny

Yeah, I don’t know. I really love the bit where the the girl gets the the was it the magical potion from her grandmother, you will know to use this sometime.

Jill

Ohh yeah, her grandma reached the tarot and then gives her the magic potion and it’s like ohh here’s a card about a lion. And and it’s. Like, oh wait.

Speaker

Yes.

Jill

This lion just took that boy from this from the jungle Safari that we’re on. I think I better get out of the safety of this car. And follow it. And then, oh, no, he’s dying from a lion bite and the lion’s like. Yeah, I don’t ******* care. And leaves. And so she gives him the potion. And then he gets lion superpowers.

Quinny

Yeah, I I love that the grandmother is so, so completely on on point. She’s like I this is gonna happen later today. Like, I’m going to tell you that it may be years until you use it, but I’m pretty ******* sure.

Jill

Yes. It’s actually today.

Quinny

You gotta use it in the next. 10 minutes or so. So great.

Dion

Anyway, I’m really glad I spent time watching Craven.

Jill

Yes.

Quinny

I watched an interesting and not particularly great show.

Speaker

So.

Quinny

Called north the North Shore, it was an IT. Yeah. There you go. It’s an ITV show from, I think it was shot in around 2021 here in set and shot all here in Sydney but starring Samuel Tarley from Game of Thrones. A as a a Detective Inspector from the UK who sent out to investigate a murder thing in. Sydney and it’s got what’s the name? Froggett from the.

Dion

What’s the name? Froggett. What the hell are you talking about? She.

Jill

We need some names.

Quinny

She’s the one from Downton Abbey.

Dion

What’s what’s the name? Froggett.

Quinny

I don’t know any. Anyway, it’s terrible, but I couldn’t stop.

Jill

Yeah, it sounds terrible.

Quinny

Like it?

Jill

Doing a bad job of describing it.

Peta

Ohh, the one that looks kind of like Lisa. Mccune. Yeah, yes.

Dion

Ohh, that’s right. Sorry I’m looking it up now and. I’m like, oh oh.

Quinny

Yeah, you know, she’s quite quite well known and.

Jill

Thought that solving the petty thefts in in Uptown wasman or what?

Quinny

Yeah, pretty much. It’s it’s all. Well, it’s politics and it’s *******, you know, the big end of town and all of these. It’s not, but it’s called North Shore. But none of it actually happens in the North Shore.

Jill

Oh.

Quinny

Well, it’s all just set in like either North Sydney or a bunch of other places and it’s just.

Jill

Not Sydney is the North Shore.

Quinny

It is the North Shore, but not the like the further.

Jill

You’re thinking northern beaches.

Peta

North the sure.

Quinny

Yeah, yeah.

Jill

North Shore is like North Sydney and up.

Dion

No, no one actually lives in the North Shore in that sense, like nothing bad ever happens in that area.

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

All of the rich houses they go to, which there are a number of them, are clearly in workloads. It’s not good. And the thing that got me is like I was watching I was. The dialogue is ******* terrible and I couldn’t believe that somebody had gone. Oh, yeah, that’s fine. Just let that go. Let that go out into the world the way that it is. But I couldn’t stop watching. So what’s the whole ******* thing?

Jill

Grabbed you by the nuts though. Why would? You, but then again, but then again. Queenie, we know you as the person that will entirely watch these sheer show on planet, but avoid everything else. That we want you.

Quinny

To watch certainly got no clue what shows you could possibly be referring. No idea what. You’re talking about. To.

Peta

I mean, I’m definitely feeling good that you spend your time on this.

Dion

Just, just just go back to just go back to the classics quiddity just go and watch water.

Jill

Oh yeah.

Peta

Ohh, I mean that is the classic.

Dion

Yeah. Or or, you know, and the other one that I I say the often miss very much forgotten Australian TV show drama that everyone’s is fire.

Jill

Blue heelers.

Dion

Do you remember that one about it? No. No. Georgie Parker starred as the Firehouse person. It was set in Brisbane.

Speaker 1

Fire.

Speaker 3

Fire.

Dion

And it was about a fire station. Uh.

Speaker

And.

Dion

And what I what I love?

Peta

I’ve never heard of this.

Dion

About.

Jill

One no, wait is this before or after?

Dion

Really.

Jill

****. What was the hospital? One that she did?

Quinny

All Saints, All Saints.

Dion

Umm. No, no, it’s 90909596.

Jill

Yeah, before that was not bad. Well, that’s some Saints. Oh ****. OK, before All Saints.

Dion

Yeah, right. But it also is one of the fun ones that also had Wayne Pygram in it.

Quinny

Ohh God yeah.

Dion

And what? What was Wayne Pygram in Farscape?

Quinny

He was Scorpius.

Speaker

Oh.

Dion

Yes. So this was the time when he was doing like non makeup like after I think it was after fast game.

Quinny

Yeah, right.

Dion

Anyway, if you want to, if you want to ******* great, stupid show, fire Georgie Parker.

Jill

Yeah, well, NCIS Sydney are shooting at Chinatown tonight.

Quinny

Ohh another thing.

Jill

Yeah, set up a. Little night market out there and.

Quinny

You know.

Dion

Yeah, I mean, I’m still not down for NCIS.

Quinny

I’m glad that they’re still shooting. It’s nice that people are still making stuff here, you know that if they’re.

Jill

Yeah. Yeah. Ohh Well, Street Fighter is in pre production in Sydney right now. I’ve got a friend working on that. Yeah, there’s no cast yet, but they’re doing pre production.

Quinny

Oh, really? Yeah, yeah.

Dion

And the great.

Quinny

I I. Totally ready to be blanker or whoever.

Dion

Are they doing casting by just going around all the nightclubs on Saturday? Someone do a Sonic boom? Actually that would be a good thing. Maybe I’ll go out on the weekend and I’ll just walk around like a vox pops and be like I’m casting for Street Fighter give. Me your best. And you can. Give me your Sonic view. Boom.

Quinny

And any time they say I can’t do it, you go. Sure you. Can.

Dion

Give us your best.

Quinny

And Casper, yes, we do get Mortal Kombat 2 this year. That’s finished shooting up in Brisbane A. Little while back.

Speaker

Yep.

Dion

Voltron has finished filming the you know, the internet’s boyfriend Henry Cavill, has.

Quinny

Yes, yes.

Dion

Headed home after being in town for a long time. Ohh **** yeah, everyone missed all this. What?

Speaker

Mother.

Jill

Why was I doing a nine to five day job when Henry Cavill was in the country?

Dion

Yeah. On the Gold Coast.

Quinny

Yeah.

Dion

Doing all that ****. Yeah, anyway, very exciting.

Quinny

Pretentious. Has anyone tried department Q? I’ve seen it pop up on Netflix.

Dion

But I.

Peta

I have had it recommended to me that I have not.

Dion

Peta

Yet tried.

Dion

I have watched all of it.

Peta

Ah well there.

Quinny

You go. What are your thoughts?

Peta

Down, they’ve been holding back on what I’ve been watching.

Dion

It has to, to be completely honest. It’s one of the funniest shows because Department Q is about a Scottish. Like murder, investor like like kind of cold Case investigation department. Except it’s headed by the one British detective in Scotland. So he everyone hates him and also the character is just a ******* ****. He’s just * ****, so you kind of feel sympathy for all of the Scottish people who hate the British guy, but not just because he’s British, because he’s also * ****. But yeah, by then it was quite fun. It has some of the ******* worst haircuts I have seen on like I’ve been. It’s kind of like, oh, we’re young and hip and we’re like, this is what the young detectives would look like. And I’m like, really, because they look like ********. Because your haircuts are terrible, but also has some nice set designs and. Things that, yeah.

Jill

Oh, I watched bet. On Netflix, it’s based off a a manga and an anime called Kakegurui, which is about compulsive gamblers. But it’s gambling in a school.

Quinny

Oh yeah. What are your thoughts on that?

Speaker

Hmm.

Jill

And so I watched the. American live action version and I’ve got to say it’s definitely got a touch of the Netflix live action animes to it. So. A lah cowboy bebop that was terrible. So we’ve got some interesting costume, a makeup choices that they’ve just directly pulled straight from the anime with, like, no kind of real world. You know, thought about it.

Quinny

Yeah.

Jill

But interesting kind of show it did kind. Of captivate me. OK, but by the end of it, I was like ohh, this is ******* dumb. Why did I watch it?

Quinny

I I noticed on Netflix that the our bodies at work, the film, which is the the anime about blood. Cells.

Jill

Our blood cells that work cells at work, yeah.

Quinny

Yeah. Yeah, but sales, but I don’t know what it is, but.

Jill

Yeah. Sales at work is, was the Japanese one.

Quinny

Yeah, well, yeah, the live action version of. That one Netflix too, but ohh.

Peta

Sorry, is this like? I need explanation. Oh, it’s it’s anthropomorphized blood cells. But is it like science education? Like, like Magic School bus? Or is it like entertainment?

Quinny

Yeah. Now you really do cause it’s quite bizarre.

Peta

Yes, yes, says Queen.

Jill

Yeah, I haven’t watched the original. But it’s just like the white blood cells all wear like white overall.

Quinny

And they fight against.

Jill

Clothes. And then you got the red. Blood cells that wear the red outfits.

Dion

Is this like?

Quinny

And the white blood cells fight against infections and like they, you know, the the red blood cells are are born in a particular part of the body and stuff like that. And they all have to go through the lungs and stuff like that. So it’s. Yeah. Was blood and and they have fights and they have action and adventure and stuff. It sounds ******* ridiculous. But I said that I was like.

Jill

Blood cells.

Dion

Is it like look around you? Sorry, is it like look around? You. I wish if anyone doesn’t know that, go look up on YouTube. Look around you. Edgar writes infomercial. Sorry, like science.

Quinny

Yeah, 1970s science and TV children’s education parody.

Dion

Egg TV things. It’s very funny. It’s just a ******* deadpan. Deadpan flooding.

Jill

I had no idea they had made. A live action of that.

Quinny

No, neither like I was sort of vaguely aware that they were doing it, and then I saw. It on Netflix and I was like. There you go.

Jill

Americanized. Or is it Japanese one?

Quinny

No, no, it’s it’s, it’s the original Japanese one, OK.

Jill

Oh. Interesting.

Dion

Who knows? Stuff comes out all the time.

Jill

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the the finale of Squid game next month.

Quinny

I’ve gotta catch up on season 2 of the.

Dion

No, they’re still, they’re still gaming the squads.

Speaker

And it watchdog.

Dion

Like. I mean.

Quinny

I I yeah.

Jill

But it’s the end to end and I’m. Looking forward to.

Quinny

It and it’s not going to last as long as stranger things.

Dion

Yeah, but then you’re gonna get like. Then you’re gonna get Beast games Season 2, and then it’s just going to be a multibillion dollar ***** ** **** that rolls around.

Jill

I don’t care about stranger things anymore.

Quinny

We’re not bitter or jaded at.

Dion

All. Nah, no. I’m just waiting for F1 to come out. Because I want to see.

Jill

Oh my God. The amount of times I’ve had to watch that trailer. Hmm. The start of every *** **** episode of the bite.

Dion

Brad Pitt Brad Pitt drives a car real fast.

Quinny

Yes, OK, here’s the question.

Jill

I don’t wanna watch this F1 trailer again, no.

Quinny

This, this, this is this is a weird one. Does anyone else when the trailers or the pre roll and stuff on Apple TV? Is it in the wrong aspect ratio?

Jill

Yes, it, yes.

Quinny

Right, because it always weirds me out that for for some reason. Yeah, like the trailers, the, the, whatever. Before the show is in the wrong aspect ratio and it’s all pinheaded and stuff like that. But then the show starts and it’s properly, you know, mattered and everything and.

Jill

Canvas.

Quinny

I was like, this is weird.

Jill

Because I watch it on my. Top so it’s like this. And then when I hit skip. And then it goes poop.

Dion

That’s good. Yeah. I just wanted to share that and to the people there, big week for Critters in Australia. Well done, guys. You’re having a big week starting tomorrow. Is it Thursday? Thursday, starting Thursday. Big, big week for you guys. Good luck for you and your D&D’s.

Quinny

Yep. Is it Thursday yet? Hmm yeah.

Dion

Your DVD thingies.

Quinny

Yeah, the the cast have landed in Australia and have been wandering around Sydney and doing their thing. Yeah, getting ready for a big show on Thursday night. Yeah.

Dion

Hope everyone is flying in or going to see him has a great time.

Quinny

Yeah. I’m very, very excited. I will be there. I’ve got my tickets, them sorted and yes. Yeah, Terry, it will actually be Thursday. Yeah, which is very exciting. So yeah.

Jill

Yeah, that’s good.

Speaker 8

That’s next.

Quinny

And I do know that you guys are like, I’m so happy for you all with no investment at all because none of all aggregates. But she’s completely fine.

Jill

Want I kind of pay that I can’t pay that emotional and time tax to get into. It. The cartoon is enough for.

Quinny

Well put it. I was going to say you you didn’t mind folks? Nothing.

Jill

Me.

Quinny

Now, yeah, it’s good. Yeah. Yeah, we we enjoy that. And yeah, looking forward to seeing them all, it’s going. To be great. Yeah, if you if you are going to the show, keep an eye out. I will be around there.

Dion

So I had to quinnes.

Quinny

Yes, please do.

Dion

Give. Give him your best fuzz Rudar. That’s. That’s right, isn’t it?

Quinny

Yeah. Yeah, let’s go. Why not? Let’s go with.

Dion

Sure.

Quinny

That. How do you want to do this?

Dion

Peter, I just wanted to ask the Kimberly.

Peta

You can believe you believe done really well. Yeah. You guys have obviously all been doing your job and just, like, replaying the eye view again and again and again.

Dion

That’s good. That’s good. Just wanted to check. OK, fine now.

Peta

Everyone. Well, I mean, I’m still delivering international versions and stuff, but but every everyone it’s been a. Beautifully positive response here. Yeah, and ABC’s very happy with how many people have watched it. Documentary is good.

Dion

Yes. Excellent. Mainly because although the content is good and the production is pretty good, that’s.

Quinny

All you know, that’s what.

Speaker

I think so.

Dion

We’re saying yeah, only took a little a little while for you to get that one.

Speaker 8

Nope.

Peta

Just while just a couple of years of my life.

Dion

Just a little while. Almost time to completely forget about clownfish.

Peta

There were no clown fish in the making of this film.

Dion

No, but they’re mud skippers.

Peta

I mean. Everyone loves the mud skippers. He doesn’t love a mud skipper.

Dion

Especially the one that just goes. Perfect. You have to watch the Kimberly there. You go everyone.

Peta

Yeah, actually, Kimberly.

Dion

Yeah. What’s Kimberly to get that job?

Peta

You might be more entertained than than you might expect from a nature film. It puts a lot of personality. Into it, yeah. And you know, we we had we had we had a. Bit of fun.

Dion

Also, what are we doing next week for this show next Tuesday?

Peta

Jill

Can’t remember.

Dion

You.

Peta

I will not be in the country and therefore I have not paid any attention to that.

Quinny

I believe it’s the last.

Dion

Of us, we’re supposed to be talking about the Last of Us, but which would have been a TBC because we didn’t know what we might else be doing that’s going on to this sort of.

Jill

Oh.

Dion

But.

Quinny

Yeah. And I will not be here next week.

Dion

You won’t be there, Sir. Well, **** you.

Quinny

Sorry.

Dion

Jill, Peter. Ladies choice.

Peta

Well, so.

Jill

Peters all his. It’s just you. Me day. I don’t know what we’re gonna talk about. You just shoot the ****, talk trash for an hour.

Dion

Jill, she’s you. We’re gonna. Well, I’m just gonna we have to. I think we should talk about the Last of Us because it’s just. Going to be us.

Jill

Yeah. It’s the Last of Us.

Speaker

The Last of Us.

Dion

And I might have a a couple of words to say about 28 years later.

Quinny

Yeah. Which we’re going to go. And check out tomorrow.

Dion

And maybe I’ll come back and do the. Shipping news.

Quinny

Got a raspy throat?

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

It’s very sexy.

Dion

Right here. It’s very sore right now. So I want to go can we, can we go please?

Quinny

Quinny

Yeah, I just need to know that you’re out there not screaming into the void.

Dion

Dion

Quinny

Let’s just say goodnight. Fine.

Speaker

Bye bye.

Speaker 1

Now sit here counting. Heroes in a cubicle downtown. I wanna look out my window, see him flying and swing cross the horizon.

Speaker 3

In humans.

Speaker 8

Quinny

Sorry.

Dion

Peta

Well, so.

Jill

Dion

Jill, she’s you. We’re gonna. Well, I’m just gonna we have to. I think we should talk about the Last of Us because it’s just. Going to be us.

Jill

Yeah. It’s the Last of Us.

Speaker

The Last of Us.

Dion

And I might have a a couple of words to say about 28 years later.

Quinny

Yeah. Which we’re going to go. And check out tomorrow.

Dion

And maybe I’ll come back and do the. Shipping news.

Quinny

Got a raspy throat?

Speaker

Yeah.

Quinny

It’s very sexy.
