In every stage of life, we ask ourselves questions like: Why am I here? What is the point of all this effort? What gives my life meaning? These questions, though sometimes uncomfortable, point to one of the most powerful drivers of mental health: purpose. Having a sense of purpose—a reason to get up in the morning, a guiding principle for our choices, a vision of something larger than ourselves—can dramatically shape the way we experience life. Research shows that people who live with a strong sense of purpose not only enjoy greater happiness but also experience lower stress, stronger resilience, and even better physical health. Purpose acts like a compass, offering direction when we feel lost and providing strength during times of struggle.
