What happens when you’ve reached the top of your game — but realize fame and performance don’t fill the ache in your soul?

This week, I’m joined by Belinda Halloran, a retired professional athlete, native Australian, and now a sports psychologist and mental performance coach living in Sonoma, California. Belinda’s story is one of grit, grace, and transformation.

As a child prodigy, she was thrust into the spotlight — appearing on magazine covers, commercials, and rising to the professional ranks at just 18. But behind the medals and recognition, she wrestled with the emptiness of a performance-driven world. In her 20s, Belinda encountered Jesus — and everything changed. She learned how to anchor her identity not in winning or accolades, but in Christ.

In this episode, Belinda opens up about:

  • Growing up in the world of elite sport and what it cost her childhood

  • Finding Jesus in the midst of fame, pressure, and temptation

  • Living boldly as a Christian in the professional sports arena (when it wasn’t popular)

  • Transitioning from Pro Athlete to Sports Psychologist & Mental Performance Coach

  • Why faith is the foundation for balance, resilience, and joy in competition

  • Her powerful mantra: Grace over glory

And parents — don’t miss her incredible advice for raising athletic kids. Belinda encourages moms and dads to make home a refuge:

“Your kids already feel immense pressure from school and their coaches. At home, let them be kids. Give them chores, play board games, go to church, talk about life outside of sports, and remind them they are your son or daughter before they are an athlete.”

If you are raising a young athlete or walking through the pressures of performance as a family, Belinda’s wisdom will bless and inspire you.
