Ep. 101 The infamous Leroy Smith, the man who beat out Michael Jordan for a spot on the high school basketball team, joins Will Gates and Arthur Agee on this weeks episode of The Agee & Gates Hoop Dreams Podcast.
Philadelphia born and North Carolina raised, Leroy grew up in North Carolina playing basketball with the most famous player in history at Laney High School. Still connected to this day by their shared high school basketball experience, Leroy has seen himself played by legendary comedian Charlie Murphy in a 2009 Nike ad, he's had his own Air Jordan shoe and he was even invited to attend Jordan's Hall of Fame ceremony. After high school Leroy played at UNC Charlotte, then professionally overseas. He went on to work for Asics, has written his own book, and launched a podcast, Lessons From Leroy and had an award winning episode of NBA Storyteller made about him.
