Childhood: The Beginnings of Trauma
Manage episode 494809240 series 3663607
Naurya takes us into her story, sharing her experiences and showing how childhood incidents leave a lifelong impact.
Naurya Pelletier-Bacquaert is a French-born art photographer and digital artist based in Washington, DC. Born in 1966 into a large Berber family from North Africa, she grew up in a working-class neighborhood in the north of France, raised by her grandmother near her parents’ home. Her early life was shaped by simplicity, freedom, and the challenges of the economic recession of the 1970s and ’80s. A mother at 20, Naurya lived in various regions of France, including the Mediterranean southeast—where the natural light deeply inspired her—and later in Paris. Although she once dreamed of becoming a journalist or painter, her path led through many jobs before she embraced photography in 2001 as a creative outlet. That passion grew into a profession when she moved to the U.S. in 2018. Her work reflects a lifelong love of discovery, culture, and human connection—core to her identity as both an artist and a woman shaped by migration, resilience, and imagination.
