The Simple Way I Choose Screening Tests For Patients
Manage episode 523900739 series 3679135
People get overwhelmed by long lists of screening tests. In this episode, I explain how I decide what actually matters.
People ask me all the time which screening tests they should get. Most of the confusion comes from long lists online or mixed messages from different doctors. I want to simplify this. Screening should be clear, predictable, and tied to real health outcomes.
In this episode, I explain how I think about screening and why more testing is not always better. I talk about the difference between a test that finds disease early and a test that simply creates anxiety. I also share the framework I use with my own patients and coaching clients so they understand which tests matter at each age.
I walk through the most common screening categories. These include cancer screening, metabolic health, cardiovascular risk, bone health, and a few specialty tests people often ask about. I also explain when a test adds value and when it is unlikely to change anything about your long-term health.
My goal is to help you spend less time confused and more time confident in your health decisions.
