Trigger warning: brief mentions of sexual assault and self-harm.

In today's episode, Early speaks with Hope. They were raised by their grandparents due to their parents being in active addiction. Hope was determined to not be like their parents, but things didn't turn out the way their kid self had planned. They began by smoking weed to alleviate cramps, and later started stealing beer from their grandparent's fridge. Skipping school became the norm, and after getting their GED they started drinking more and more. They watched their friend have a near death experience while using inhalants, went through a xanax phase, and drank often and to excess. The sudden death of their sister propelled them into extreme alcohol addiction, bed rotting, and a state of listlessness. The same grief later propelled them into sobriety, and they have never looked back.
