In this episode of The Healthy Mind Podcast, neurologist Dr. Steven J. Resnick sits down with Dr. Arlette Perry, Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Clinical and Applied Physiology at the University of Miami.

Dr. Perry has devoted her career to studying how movement transforms the brain and body. She bridges decades of research on cardiovascular fitness, obesity prevention, women's health, and youth wellness, revealing how exercise enhances not only physical performance but also neuroplasticity, mood, and longevity.

Together, they explore the true meaning of fitness, how the mind and body communicate through movement, and how the five pillars of health—mind, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and physical longevity... work together to create lasting vitality.

Key Topics: • How exercise rewires the brain and nervous system • The science of movement and its impact on aging • Longevity lessons from cardiovascular physiology • How fitness influences emotional and cognitive health • Understanding vascular health and inflammation • Exercise strategies for different body types and goals • What research shows about women's health and aging • Why tennis, balance training, and interval work improve brain function

Dr. Perry also discusses her groundbreaking Vascular Health Project at the University of Miami, a study focused on improving women's vascular and metabolic health through lifestyle interventions.
