Today we are speaking about the summer program at Seed Studio here in Durango called the teen Artist Pathway program featuring weekly Tuesday sessions with local accomplished artist mentors who teach and explore a range of topics and mediums with high school students. These mentors will be helping the student artists to prepare for the upcoming exhibit of their work at the new Durango Creative District Gallery and headquarters located at 1135 Main Avenue. The exhibit is titled “Our Nature:Threshold” and opens Friday August 15 with a reception from 5-8pm and will remain on view for two weeks. Joining me in the studio today is Kim Adams, the executive director of Seed Studio, Bekah Kolbe Gallery Manager at Blue Rain Gallery who will also be serving as an organizer and gallery manager for this event, and Allyra Meeker who is one of the students and participating artists. The exhibit which is part of the teen Artist Pathway program which is funded by the Lodgers’ Tax Arts and Culture Fund is designed to give five young artists hands-on experience with developing artwork and producing a professional gallery exhibition. Ten percent of all artwork sales will be donated to Annie’s Orphans a no-kill dog shelter in Durango.
