Changing Australia: Kris Rallah-Baker and saving the sight of First Nations Australians
Manage episode 500113658 series 5428
Several times now, ophthalmologist Kris Rallah-Baker has closed his private rooms in Noosa in Queensland and headed to Darwin.
There, he's performed dozens of sight-saving surgeries for First Nations patients from around the Top End who have disengaged from the medical system and without treatment, could have gone blind.
Kris Rallah Baker is Australia's first Indigenous ophthalmologist, and while he's saving eyes, he's also pushing for better Indigenous representation in medicine and is a vocal advocate for culturally safe environments for practitioners and patients.
Guest: Associate Professor Kris Rallah Baker, Australia's first Indigenous ophthalmologist, First Nations Eye Health Alliance board member
