What exactly is the “spirit of Amalek” and how is it different from the “spirit of Jeroboam”? As David Altman explains in this second part of our four-part conversation, both can manifest in Jew hatred, but there is a significant difference in the origin and intention of each. Not surprisingly, elements of Amalek and Jeroboam have manifested in the history of the church, leading to considerable tragedy in Christian-Jewish relations.

Is there a way around this enmity between Christians and Jews, the two halves of God’s Covenant People of Israel? Yes, but it requires humility, repentance, and a return to God’s standards of righteousness. That’s what David Jones and Barry Phillips talk about in their midrash, “Men As Trees,” and what we hear in the music of Teshuva and the Exodus Road Band.
