For Episode 23 of the OSHA Oops Podcast, safety experts Michael and Rick discuss the importance of safety training for ladders. And how one California company was fined $10,000 when a serious injury occurred to an employee who was overreaching while hanging Christmas lights.
Why is overreaching so dangerous? When working on a ladder, your body acts as the ladder's center of gravity. When your body is centered between the side rails of the ladder, the center of gravity is optimal. Unfortunately, even a slight overreach can shift the center of gravity, leading to the ladder shifting or tipping over.
