They are going to hate doing it, the systems will be fractured, it will cost millions in employee's time, and the result will reduce productivity. The CEO would likely kick you out of her office or fire you because it's a really bad idea. Yet, we've been doing this for decades and most companies continue the practice of performance evaluations and reviews today. We asked Janine Truitt to join us on the show to call bullshit on performance evaluations and reviews. Like most things in HR, we look for ways to file and rank people like cattle because it makes creating one-size-fits-all strategies and programs easy. Paying attention to individual contributions and matching that with meaningful moments and recognition is what makes coming to work and sacrificing family, time, and energy worth it for many people, but we would rather prioritize a process over people."
