Manage episode 511431823 series 2826473
Dr. Megan Ross is a lawyer, academic, and human rights advocate whose career spans international policy work, groundbreaking legal research, and now, the reinvention of estate planning in Nova Scotia. After being called to the bar in 2010, Megan practiced at a major Calgary firm before earning a Master of Laws from NYU and contributing to UNICEF’s policy department. She later completed her doctorate in law at the University of Toronto, teaching queer and feminist legal theory at both Emory University and U of T.
This year, Megan launched Ross Estate Law in Dartmouth with a bold vision: to make estate planning accessible, compassionate, and community-driven. Inspired by her early call to disrupt inequities in the legal profession and her later work with Halifax’s Death Café and death doulas, Megan is bringing a new approach to the industry. Through innovative workshops and partnerships with groups like Death Matters, she is creating affordable, collaborative ways for people to prepare for life’s final chapter.
In this episode, Megan reflects on the pivotal moments that shaped her journey—from a powerful charge to challenge the old structures of law, to discovering new, human-centered models of end-of-life planning. Listeners will hear how she is reimagining estate law with empathy, accessibility, and a disruptive spirit—making a lasting impact on the profession and her community.
