In this Navigate conversation, Tim and his guest Lori Ferrell dive into the theme of rest. How do we become willing, open and active recipients to the rest we need?
Lori Ferrell
Lori Ferrell is a wife, mother of two boys, and a spiritual director. Her passion is to invite others into rhythms of rest and to know themselves as fully known and fully loved.
Website: soulsala.org
We are not defined by our ministry, our work, our roles—but delighting in God, in God’s creation, and in this place remembering who we are at the core. In light of this we can see that rest is meant to restore us to our sense of who we are as God’s beloved—as image bearers of God.

Rest is a gift God wants us to experience—not something that God is commanding us to do as a box to check off the list. And so, if you've found yourself longing for rest as you heard the invitation in Matthew 11:28—“Come to me all who are weary…” then why not give yourself the gift of rest?

Some Rest/Sabbath Practices:

  • Sabbath
  • Solitude
  • Silence
  • Retreat
  • Being in nature
  • Celebration
  • Savoring practices—practices that cause us to slow down and really notice/see/experience
  • Candle lighting
  • Breath prayers
  • Practicing gratitude—in community, or in a journal

Quotes:
“Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28

“Resting with you, I become myself again.” —Peter Traben Haas, author of Centering Prayers
“Refreshing rest is that which renews us in the image of God, and in which we experience and delight in something of how God intended life in his creation to be.” - Sue Currie, director of Selah LTI training program
Depletion is inevitable, so restoration becomes essential. - Daniel Hahn
