Narcissistic abuse doesn’t always look like yelling or overt control. Sometimes, it’s the quiet erosion of your confidence, the subtle dismissal of your feelings, or the way you’re made to feel like the problem—no matter what you say or do.

In this episode of the Narcissistic Abuse Recovery podcast, we examine five covert tactics narcissists use to destabilize your sense of self and gain control in relationships. These behaviors often go unnoticed at first, but over time, they can leave you feeling confused, silenced, and emotionally depleted.

We explore:

  • False apologies that sound sincere but deflect responsibility and shift blame
  • Lack of validation that leaves you feeling invisible, unheard, and emotionally isolated
  • Forgetting or minimizing special occasions as a way to devalue your worth
  • Playing the victim to avoid accountability and manipulate others’ perceptions
  • Intimidation through tone, posture, or outbursts designed to silence and control

These tactics are subtle, but their impact is profound. By naming them, we begin to see the patterns clearly—and that clarity is the first step toward healing.

This episode is for anyone who’s ever walked away from a conversation feeling smaller, dismissed, or like they’re constantly “too much.” If you’ve been told you’re overreacting, or if your needs have been consistently ignored, this conversation will help you put words to what you’ve experienced.
