Robots, or robotic technology if you prefer, and now especially with artificial intelligence (AI) are becoming a fact of postmodern life. There are more of them in our midst already manufacturing products or providing services than probably most of us know or believe. Perhaps the most compelling question facing us is how will robots, particularly those made to resemble human beings, interact with and perhaps change the dynamics of what it means to be a human being? The philosophic, religious, moral, and practical questions are legion. From a Christian perspective, how would God have us engage with and deploy robotic, AI-based technology? How can we use them for good and not for evil? Being human, that last part, evil, is already afoot. In any event, the British, no the robots are coming.
