When You Crave Man's Approval More Than God's: I Samuel 26-29
Manage episode 508449246 series 3382770
I'd love to hear from you, text me your thoughts!
Young king David was in an impossible situation. He idolized the king and had become like a brother to the king's son. God came along an annointed him the new king, all while Saul still lived. As both an idol and a father figure, he clearly craved Saul's approval... or at least an absence of the desire to kill him whenever they were together.
David really fixated on HIS vision of a happy family/friendship instead of living in God's reality... to the extent that he ran away from his people, avoided the job God had given him.... lost himself in the lies he had to create to keep reality at bay and ultimately found himself lined up ready to do battle with his own people!
David's early life is filled with anguish as we can see in Psalms... but it seems to me that a lot of his pain of his own making. We all have the capacity to choose emotional misery or peace... many times it just comes down to whose approval matters most- man or God's.
