I'd love to hear from you, text me your thoughts!

We are a finite being with very limited resources contained within our bodies. This means that we can only achieve a given set of things in a day, a week, a lifetime. Walking God's path in the purpose of our lives uses those resources wisely and efficiently- funneling them all toward our purpose without deviating. Any time we make a choice to follow a purpose dictated by our preference or that of those around us, it is unavoidable that we will also give up a portion of God's purpose for us....

I was struck by the similarities in the parable of the trees from Judges 9 and what happens as humans select different properties when breeding our food (plants). The idea of becoming king was silly.. because to do it, the plants would have to give up some essence of the purpose for which God made them to devote the time and energy to the new job.

In the same way, in nature, when we select for some trait that pleases us as humans, we are DESELECTING something else. We can't always know what that is, or what the ramifications of our choice are because we don't have the vision that God has in relation to His creation. When we select for leaf shape in a medicinal, we may be deselecting for a compound that previously was beneficial to the organs in our body.

Altering our path to please ourselves, or other humans is a dangerous path. It may seem innocent- such as selecting for your favorite color in a tulip- but it is no less an act of playing God. Many times, we might be co-creating in a game of delighting in nature... but sometimes- as in the prospect of becoming a king... we are asking for that plant to give up some of its essential purpose as was originally designed by the Creator- all without any knowledge of the damage we are doing.
