In this episode, Katrina McLarin sits down with Cheryl Womack to unpack the complex transition from prison to a halfway house. Cheryl shares her first impressions of life inside the halfway house — a place where she never truly felt safe. From having no locks inside and facing the uncertainty of not knowing the system, she reflects on the emotional weight of adjusting to a new reality during this stage of reentry.

Unlike many others, Cheryl did not need to work during her time there, giving her a different perspective on the challenges of reintegration. Together, Katrina and Cheryl explore the effectiveness of halfway houses in supporting reentry, the family dynamics that shaped Cheryl’s experience, and the emotional highs and lows of being “halfway out” but not yet fully home.
