Mark Olson was one of the great speakers at the SE Collision Conference. He talks about the different generations and how different each one will do something as basic as making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You add in the 4 different personality types which are: amiables, expressives, drivers and analyticals. He also talks about "communicating to discover and understand". That would shift the world!
If you are wondering what personality type you are (or your employees) you can take the DISC profile here: https://www.tonyrobbins.com/disc/
As Mark says, "If you understand how people are, then you know how to treat them, then you know how to bring them in!" This applies to your employees and your customers.
Knowing this we realize that the golden rule of "Do unto others as you would have them do to you" doesn't apply in the way we think it does. People don't want you to do to them as YOU would want but as THEY would want!
