Episode 33 - Every Child Deserves Better: Renee Carter on Reform, Resources & Adopt Change
Manage episode 459876023 series 2970259
Hi everyone, today I will be speaking to Renee Carter, CEO of Adopt Change Australia. Adopt Change is a non-profit organisation with its purpose to support children in need, focussing on government care, foster care, orphans, or children without families, and their carers, families and guardians.
They have continued to achieve this by providing resources such as my packs to support at-risk children and also providing support and resources to carers, families and guardians. They place emphasis on understanding trauma and trauma informed practices and parenting and provide information to schools and the community on trauma informed support and advocate in finding more family homes for kids across Australia.
In 2024, nationally there are around 45,000 children living in out of home care. 4,800 of children and young people are living in alternative care arrangements (ACAs) such as residential group homes, hotels, motels and caravan parks. This was considered a short term solution however some children are staying in this temporary arrangement for more than a year and children as young as under 5 years old.
The focus here has been to address this critical issue and find solutions.
I had a great but necessary chat with Renee. I thank her for her time and the incredible team from Adopt Change as they make important progress towards their vision making sure every child deserves their right for a stable, safe and nurturing environment so they can grow, learn, play and thrive.
