One of the many benefits of making ACH payments is that when they fail, you know almost immediately. And while they fail far less frequently than checks get lost, bounce or are stolen, it does happen. And when that occurs, the ACH payment is returned, hence the term, ACH returns. A good understanding of why returns occur will allow you to create a process that minimizes returns and allows you to respond quickly when they do fail.
