Summary: Mark Zuckerberg's rather spectacular demo disaster at Meta Connect. Watching a billionaire's cutting-edge AI glasses repeatedly tell someone to "shave some pear" whilst they're trying to make Korean sauce was genuinely painful, like watching Siri have an existential crisis on stage. That said, I'm actually more bullish on the tech than most people seem to be. Yes, it crapped out spectacularly, but the underlying concept of neural wristbands that can detect hand movements for text input is pure sci-fi becoming reality. We're just early, and these things always look ridiculous until they don't.
The more significant story, though, was China essentially giving America the finger by banning Nvidia chip purchases whilst Trump was having tea with the King. Was this planned? Beijing clearly knew what they were doing. Huawei immediately followed up with their own announcement about linking 15,000 graphics cards together, which is their answer to Nvidia's dominance. Meanwhile, Google finally decided to put Gemini into Chrome, which frankly should have happened ages ago. Also had a lovely tangent showing off Notebook LM because nobody uses it despite it being brilliant for turning any video into study materials. Oh, and Massive Attack pulled their music from Spotify because the CEO invested €600 million in military AI drones. And questions from the live audience!
