As we age, our bodies undergo natural changes, and our brains are no exception. This week on Aging Less: The Longevity Science Insights Podcast, host Marie Stella is joined by cognitive neuroscientist Audrey Duarte to examine the intricacies of what happens to our brains as we age.

Having received her Ph.D. in neurobiology in 2004 from University of California, Berkeley, Audrey Duarte currently sits on the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin, as a professor of psychology and neurology. Along with her lab, she has published numerous journal articles, book chapters, and edited volumes on topics such as the contribution of prefrontal cortical dysfunction to age-related episodic memory impairments, individual differences in cognitive decline across the adult lifespan and the factors contributing to them, and more.

In this episode, Audrey Duarte reveals the key differences between normal aging and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, she goes into detail on the changes that occur in our brain structure and function as we age, and addresses the role of genetics and lifestyle in cognitive aging.

Together, Marie and Audrey Duarte discuss the importance of focusing on the more positive aspects of aging, between a decrease in anxiety and an increase in emotional well-being. So, tune in this week to learn the secrets behind developing a sharper mind, for a longer, healthier life!
