What would change if you stopped being afraid of love? Not love as an emotion, but love as your very identity!
Lesson 282 from A Course in Miracles offers a profound invitation: "I will not be afraid of love today." This seemingly simple statement becomes a gateway to dismantling the ego's defenses against our true nature. When we fear love, we're actually afraid of exposure, vulnerability, and the ego's annihilation โ€“ but these fears are based on a fundamental misunderstanding of what we truly are.
The lesson reveals that choosing love is choosing sanity. Our hypervigilance and constant state of alert about worldly matters stems from a deep mistrust of love. But what if you recognized that "your name is love" โ€“ not as poetic metaphor but as literal truth? Your true identity remains indistinct from your Source, created for love, by love, as love itself. Nothing you perceive about yourself can touch the love that you actually are.
Most remarkably, this lesson teaches that the world isn't separate from your perception. Your consciousness acts like a tuning fork, attuning everything around you. When you remember your identity as love, your projected field becomes a sanctuary, and the thought of God ripples across all timelines and spaces. You weren't created to fear, to earn, or to manage perceptions โ€“ you were created simply to radiate the love that created you.
Ready to practice? Whenever fear arises today, ask yourself: "Am I afraid of being loved here?" Notice how it feels to let love flow right now. The decision not to fear love isn't about becoming a better version of yourself โ€“ it's about remembering who you've been all along: wholly sinless, at peace, and constantly loved.
