Not Every Disaster Leads to Disaster

“When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself…” - Acts 16:27

The earthquake had destroyed the prison. The shackles were broken. The doors were open. The prisoners he was in charge of, he presumed were escaped. The consequences he was about to face having failed the Romans in his mind were far worse than a quick death at his own hands.

Disaster had come. He had lost everything that he ever worked for. He didn’t see any way. He saw no possibility for ever recovering. But this disaster didn’t lead to disaster. Paul and Silas didn’t escape but chose to remain. They taught him a lesson and showed him another way.

Not every disaster leads to disaster. Some can lead us into a new and better life. As long as we don’t do anything stupid or impulsive in our low moments we still have hope. If we are willing to look for the lessons, and learn, grow and change, our disasters can lead us to life.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
