Digital Marketing Hotseat Podcast

Episode 012

What is the Best Way to Market my Book Online?

Check in to the Digital Marketing Hotseat Podcast this week as Lynn and Mark talk about how to digitally market your book. Marketing is perhaps the hardest part of the book-writing podcast, with endless places to start. Listen in to learn strategies for marketing your book through email marketing, social media, and influencers

Meet Katie Barbaro

Katie is a fellow podcast producer with the “Casual Ecstasy” podcast, as well as an intuitive healer, creativity doula. She is also now an author, having published her first book: “Fed Up: An Illustrated Guide to Food Freedom.” Katie’s cartoon-based memoir documents her recovery from disordered eating and her discovery of a better self on the other side. Katie hopes that illustrating her process will help others feel liberated from whatever it is that’s holding them back in life.

What’s the Best Way to Digitally Market My Book?

Lynn recommends starting to market your book 6 months ahead of time. The easy part, in her opinion, is writing the book -- marketing is the hard bit. Even if you’re being traditionally published, most of the marketing falls on the author, not the publisher. There’s a lot to juggle as a single person and small business owner, so start early.

When it comes to marketing a book, Mark says to hone in on the audience. Identify the ideal reader and figure out where it is that you can find them. Social media, podcasts, and expos with similar audiences are all great places to start.

When it comes to partnering with influences, Mark recommends looking for strategic partners whose audience would resonate with your book. Someone who reliably and consistently connects with your target audience could sample a chapter of your book and then share it on their account. In this way, you’re creating a kindred space rather than a competitive one. Not to mention, both parties benefit, with you (the author) getting the opportunity to market your book, while also providing valuable content for your influencer partner.
