Ystyriwn y cywydd ‘Gwenllian’ gan Myrddin ap Dafydd yn y bennod hon, gan egluro’r ddau gyd-destun hanesyddol perthnasol – diwedd llinach tywysogion Cymru yn 1282 a hanes ymgyrch yn y 1990au i greu cofeb i ferch Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, Gwenllian. Awgrymwn fod y gerdd hon yn gofeb hynod drawiadol yn ei hawl ei hun. Wrth bwysleisio bod Myrddin ap Dafydd wedi dewis mesur caeth traddodiadol, y cywydd, nodwn ei fod yn defnyddio’r mesur hwnnw mewn modd gwreiddiol. Craffwn ar arwyddocâd yr enwau lleoedd sy’n angori’r gofeb farddonol hon mewn rhan benodol o Gymru. Rhaid cyfaddef hefyd ein bod wedi’n llorio gan y tristwch sy’n hydreiddio’r gerdd bwerus hon. * We consider the poem 'Gwenllian' by Myrddin ap Dafydd in this episode, explaining the two relevant historical contexts – the end of the dynasty of the princes of Wales in 1282 and the history of a campaign in the 1990s to create a memorial to Llywelyn ap Gruffudd's daughter, Gwenllian. We suggest that this poem is a remarkably impressive memorial in its own right. In emphasising that Myrddin ap Dafydd chose a traditional strict measure, the cywydd, we note that he used that measure in an original way. We will examine the significance of the place names that anchor this poetic memorial in a particular part of Wales. It must also be admitted that we are overwhelmed by the sadness that permeates this powerful poem. Cyflwynwyd gan: Yr Athro Jerry Hunter a'r Athro Richard Wyn Jones Cynhyrchwyd gan: Richard Martin Cerddoriaeth: 'Might Have Done' gan The Molenes Deunydd perthnasol: - Nodiadau CBAC: https://resource.download.wjec.co.uk/vtc/2014-15/WJEC-14-15_12/Gwenllian.docx
