This week we are in for a special treat as we "hop across the pond" and land in Dundee, Scotland to connect with innovative songwriter, composer and producer Theo Bleak, whose music resonates with a profound sense of place and reflection, somehow achieving a sound that is equally familiar and unfamiliar, nostalgic and yet completely new.
With each note, she weaves a sonic tapestry that captures the beauty and complexity of the world around her, drawing listeners into a journey through time, nature, and emotion. Her music is deeply influenced by the landscapes of Perthshire and Angus, where she finds inspiration during reflective walks through the countryside.
Theo Bleak’s work is more than just music; it is an exploration of the human experience through the lens of nature’s ever-changing beauty. With each piece, she offers a moment of introspection, a chance to reconnect with the world and with oneself. Her music is a journey—a walk through the countryside of the mind and heart, where every step brings a new revelation.
Bleak's 2023 EP Pain made the shortlist for Scottish Album of the Year (SAY), and features the universally loved hit "Raining All The Time", which will be our encore song at the end of the broadcast.
We'll dive in to her songwriting efforts, which she acknowledges can leave her quite spent and "incredibly unwell", but she can't imagine doing anything else.
We also touch on the collab she did having James Graham join her to sing on the track "Don't Borrow Grief From Later", which the title alone leaves you musing on its poetry.
Hope you'll join us for the this lovely chat and the very medieval Scottish vibe, but mostly for Theo Bleak's incredible music.
