In this episode, we interviewed Luke, Charlotte and Nicholas Forwood. Below is the information provided by their Mum, who was also part of the interview. In 2013, when Nicholas was 2 years old he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Stage IV, High Risk and underwent treatment for the next 18 months at Westmead Children's Hospital. At the start he was given a 50% chance of survival and as treatment progressed his chances of survival decreased, although his cancer was responding to treatment it was not as well as the doctors hoped. Luke and Charlotte really wanted to do something for their little brother and so decided to do a head shave to raise money in his honour, knowing that the money that they raised would not benefit Nicholas but would go towards helping future families and kids. This head shave turned into a passion for raising both funds and awareness about childhood cancer, for all of us! There have been newspaper, TV and website interviews; speeches at charity events, school and a parliamentarian breakfast in Canberra; they have organised and run various smaller fund-raising events; and are honoured to do any promotional videos, photos and letters etc asked by TKCP. They came to their own conclusion that 'awareness leads to funding, which leads to research which leads to a cure'. They started off hoping to raise $500-$1,000, and have since raised well over $130,000 for The Kids Cancer Project and the flow on effect of their raising awareness is immeasurable. Luke and Charlotte were recently presented with Youth Ambassador Awards from TKCP for all the efforts. You will love this episode as much as we loved recording it. As always, send comments and suggestions to [email protected] and please continue to support kids cancer charities, especially The Kids' Cancer Project (www.thekidscancerproject.org.au).
