You Know Someone Affected — Even If You Don’t Know It - Unveiling the Stigma of Substance Use with Leslie McBain
Manage episode 510040317 series 3596894
Substance use (in this episode we are referencing drugs) isn’t some distant issue — it’s often our neighbour, our family member, or our friend. The very first step in helping someone find support is breaking down the walls of stigma. When we reduce judgment and shame, we create space for compassion, understanding, and real solutions. This episode explores how shifting our mindset can open the door to healing, connection, and the resources people need to find their way forward.
Joining us is Leslie McBain the co-founder of Moms Stop the Harm, an advocacy and peer-support organization she helped start in 2016 after the overdose death of her son, Jordan. She serves as Family Engagement Lead at the BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU) and sits on multiple provincial and federal committees dedicated to compassionate, evidence-based drug policies, and has participated in international forums.
