Welcome to episode 9, season 4 of the Woman Uncaged podcast! Today, Laura and Linda explore the modern phenomenon of treating ourselves like a brand. What do we gain from it, and what do we stand to lose?
In the age of online businesses and social media influencers, there is pressure to approach ourselves (especially if we are solopreneurs) as a brand and thereby turn our lives into content. But while brands require consistency, human beings thrive on change and growth. When we look at ourselves like a brand, we pigeonhole ourselves, focusing only on certain areas of our lives while excluding others entirely.
Through selfies and self-documentation, even those of us who are not in business for ourselves can inadvertently begin to transform our lived experiences into content to be consumed by others...while the experience is happening! Our everyday lives turn into something public and through this process, the soulful and secret is lost.
In our over-commodified lives, perhaps unbranding ourselves is a key facet of becoming an uncaged woman.
