SOLO: A ‘second job’ at work - building a supportive workplace of authenticity and Inclusion
Manage episode 353922100 series 2922191
Imagine for a moment that you have a job, but you also have a second job. A second job that takes up a significant amount of your time and energy. In businesses large and small, from the IT industry to government agencies, in for-profits and nonprofits, in any country, most people are doing that second job but it is not the job you are thinking of.
I discuss the examples and consequences of employees hiding their true selves at work For employees, covering can lead to burnout, poor mental and physical well-being, lack of trust and communication with colleagues and managers, and a lack of job satisfaction and fulfillment. For employers, it leads to decreased productivity, lack of innovation, increased staff turnover and absenteeism, and additional recruitment and training expenses.
We explore the importance of creating a company culture that promotes authenticity, openness, and inclusivity in order to foster a positive and productive work environment for all employees. We also provide practical and specific steps that organizations can take to help employees avoid covering in day-to-day situations.
