The loss of Nottoway Plantation due to fire led to laughter and celebration by blacks and "anti-racists." But it is not just about antebellum homes — everything said about this house could be (and has been said) about the White House, the Capitol, and everything else that defines America. Civic nationalism is fundamentally untenable, and whites are running out of time to wake up to that fact.
