Senate Democrats urge release of Justice Department memo on Trump administrations authority to strike suspected drug-trafficking boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. The memo, reportedly drafted over the summer, argues that U.S. forces involved in these maritime strikes cannot be prosecuted. The administration has carried out twenty-one strikes so far, resulting in the deaths of at least eighty-three suspected traffickers. Democrats demand transparency and full Congressional information about the legal basis for these missions. The White House supports the campaign, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stating that President Trump is satisfied with the results and that these missions will continue. These strikes come as the administration has sent more forces into the U.S. Southern Command region due to increased tensions with Venezuela.
